I partnered with this brand in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.
Don’t get me wrong, my kids love toys and of course feel as if they never have enough. I will say though that as they get older, they are appreciating books more. This year both of my boys actually asked for books on their Christmas lists. To say I am overjoyed would be an understatement. I am and have always been a huge book lover. While my boys, not so much.
The types of books my kids go for the most though are non-fiction books. They love flipping through books that are jam packed with facts or about specific topics. I love that they are reading about facts and soaking it all in.
Well just in time for the holidays, National Geographic Kids, the #1 publisher of nonfiction books for kids, has some awesome books that would make great gifts.
Big, Gifty & Glitzy: 5,000 Awesome Facts (About Everything!) 3
Find fascinating knowledge nuggets on all kinds of cool topics, from bubble gum and ice cream to the outer space and the North Pole! This book offers hours of unplugged fun for curious kids who love to be the trivia expert in the family. (Ages 8-12)
This is a big hardcover book that contains a little of everything, from food to transportation to animals to tv – there is seriously a little everything in here. It is sure to appeal to everyone as we could all learn something from this book. Heck, I learned something from reading page 1! I think its neat too how on the bottom of each page, if you have read every single fact up to that point on the pages, it tells you how many facts you will have learned. For example once you get to page 15, “You have learned 226 facts.” Pretty cool. I think this would make a great coffee table book as well as its so interesting and there are so many eye-catching pictures throughout it. It is a book too that will never be obsolete as it contains facts!
Best Gift Book for the New Year: National Geographic Kids Almanac 2017
Get inspired for the year ahead with the most popular kids’ almanac on the planet! It features 350+ pages of incredible photos, fun facts, news, activities, and features about animals, science, exploration, technology, culture, and more. (Ages 8-12)
This is a paperback book about the size of an adult hardcover novel. It contains everything you always wanted to know about everything – so basically a little of everything. There is even a Fun and Games section in the middle of the book where there are activities to complete and fill-in! This would make a great gift for any child (heck, I love it as well) who is curious or just loves facts. It has pictures on every page and is broken down into categories so they can easily flip to sections they want to read more on. I can see why it would be a New York Times Bestseller. This book would be perfect for on-the-go fun reading due to its size and being paperback. Don’t let its size fool you though, there is a lot to be learned throughout it!
Something a Little Weird: Weird but True 8
Kids love Weird But True! The latest, greatest in this endlessly fascinating series – now with more than 20 titles — is full of 300 all-new wild and wacky facts and pictures. (Ages 8-12)
This is a smaller paperback book – about the size of a two cellphones next to each other. It is not as overwhelming as the other books as it contains a picture on each page and big font with the facts. There are only 300 facts in this book but they are all outrageous and silly ones. All the facts in this book make you go “Wow!” Due to its smaller size, it is perfect for carrying around or even keeping in the car. We have even kept it at the dinner table for fun conversations, taking turns reading facts. My kids love them and understand them all, especially thanks to the pictures.
