I partnered with this brand for product and/or compensation in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.
At least once a week I turn my car around to come back down the street to see if I left the garage door open or walk back down after I get in bed to check. I am always worried about leaving it open. A new garage door system is not something in our budget or even a project we want to tackle anytime soon.
Well a product from Chamberlain has come out that is exactly what I needed but didn’t know existed. The MyQ Universal Smartphone Garage Door Controller is a super simple device that allows a user to monitor and control your garage door right from your smartphone. It even works with all major garage door brands.
Super simple to install – You just mount a piece on your garage ceiling and plug it in and mount another piece on the door itself. Then you just set it up via the MyQ app, which is free of course. You do need Wi-Fi which the MyQ connects into.
See that little black box on the left – that is the sensor:
See from a tap of your fingers in the app if the door is open or closed and for how long it has been!
Works with all major garage door opener brands. We have an old Liftmaster and it works great!
No additional devices (other than MyQ and your home’s Internet set-up) required and No monthly service charges! Yes it is a one-time use cost of the MyQ and you are all set.
Set up your door to open/close during scheduled times. Maybe you want the door to open everyday to let your kids in from school or for a worker coming to your house. This way you don’t have to give out your garage door code (if you have) or be interrupted to open/close from your phone if your busy. You can also set up alerts so you can be notified when the door is open and/or closed. Know right when it happens with a push notification to your device.
Sync with Nest, Wink and XFINITY Home.
Our MyQ has worked perfectly for us and has been a lifesaver. Just the other day I was walking with my daughter and was about 2 blocks away when the school bus around with my boys. I was able to open the garage door for them while we walked down the street so they didn’t have to wait on the porch. Another time I opened it was for my brother who texted me that he was stopping at our house to pick up something. Super easy and convenient doing it from a tap of my fingers. Oh and I absolutely love being to check my garage status from my bed.
Check out the MyQ Universal Smartphone Garage Door Controller on Amazon or wherever home improvement/tech products are sold.
WIN IT: (1) US winner will receive a MyQ Garage Kit

Luckily I have never done that left the garage door open here
I have left ours open by accident and it is so dangerous to do!
I left my garage door open one time when I left on a vacation. I had a call from a neighbor who helped me out. It wouldn't be a pretty flight with that on my mind.
I have never done that left the garage door open here
I've never left it open, I'm really good about closing the garage at home.
I haven't but my mom has and several times - this is something I would get for her
I haven't but my mom has done so, a few times actually. I would have to gift this prize to her if I won
I don't believe we have.
I leave my garage door open all the time its not too bad were we live now but when we lived in Florida I heard a noise in my garage and opened the door and there was a young man getting on one of our new mountain bikes and took off. I was so pissed off I chased him down my neighboor started running after him with me. Well we got my bike back but lesson learned we always closed the garage door after that!
