Cirque du Soleil shows, in general, are amazing and the show LUZIA does not disappoint. I have seen a few Cirque du Soleil shows throughout the years here in Chicago and in Las Vegas, but the shows are pretty much everywhere.

Now if you are thinking it is just another circus or a weird show, you are partly right. Some of the acts are similar to traditional circuses but they go past the boundaries and all the other acts leave you thinking “How do they do that?”

LUZIA is Cirque du Soleil’s 38th original production since 1984 and first premiered in 2016.

A WAKING DREAM OF MEXICO

LUZIA takes you to an imaginary Mexico, like in a waking dream, where light (“luz” in Spanish) quenches the spirit and rain (“lluvia”) soothes the soul. Through a series of grand visual surprises and breathtaking acrobatic performances, LUZIA invites audiences to escape on a surrealistic journey through a sumptuous and vibrant world suspended somewhere between dreams and reality. Smoothly passing from an old movie set to the ocean to a smoky dance hall or an arid desert, LUZIA cleverly brings to the stage multiple places, faces and sounds of Mexico taken from both tradition and modernity. Rich in awe-inspiring moments, LUZIA enchants by incorporating rain into acrobatic and artistic scenes – a first for a Cirque du Soleil touring production.

My kids were hesitant at first because they thought a circus was a circus. They honestly couldn’t take their eyes off the stage. That is another thing with this show, there was so much going on everywhere that there was constant entertainment. The only hard part is you don’t want to miss anything! The acts were all amazing and I could watch the show over and over.

The show was set up in a big tent in a parking lot but it didn’t disappoint with how huge it was inside!

Since I couldn’t possibly explain all the acts performed, I have some pictures and a video I put together of some of the acts. Don’t worry though there was so much I didn’t get pictures of as I was just trying to soak everything in.
