Why Team Building is Important

This post is a partnership with Nakturnal.

When I was younger I don’t really remember any of my classes having any group projects. We sat in our seats, did our work and that was that. Nowadays it seems like my kids are always working in group projects. I feel like team building can be so beneficial for kids to learn from a young age. Heck, even just working on one’s own everyday tasks there are valuable skills one can learn.

As an adult there are so many times we have to work together with others. I am always amazed when I see other adults who don’t know how to talk to others. I know some people are shy and introverts, but there are so many occasions where its important to be able to learn and work with others. Everyone has different skills and ways of problem-solving.

There are four approaches to team building: Setting Goals, Role Clarification, Problem Solving and Interpersonal-relations. If you think about it, those four approaches appear in most situations such as with a spouse or co-worker. There are always challenges but life is full of challenges. While I am not in a workplace, I actually use team building with my family when we are together. From putting together something or even playing a game, I like to turn everything into something we can learn from. I don’t go as far as team building activities but really they kinda are! I’m hoping my kids grow up to be successful with their careers and adult lives!

  • For your entire life, you will have to work with other people. It is important to start teaching kids that at a young age so it doesn't become a problem when the time comes.

  • I hated working in groups as a child. I wish I had something like Snapology back then to open up my heart to it. I always had strange anxiety in groups. This would have helped I think!

  • I actually think team building is even more important now than when I was a kid, because people are so much more direct isolated due to technology. What do I mean by direct isolated. Well people chat over phones, over the internet, rather than in person. People entertain themselves more rather than being physically involved in group outdoor play or group indoor play. Fewer kids seem to be signing up for groups that are or are like scouting. I even think the number of kids going away to camp for a few weeks in the summer is dwindling. So yes, whether it be in the work place or in a school setting (even homeschool parents should get together and plan stuff for group interaction for their children) I think team building is important.

  • It's a great idea to implement team building more at home! My girls would definitely benefit from it, I feel!
