Incorporating a Home Automation System

There are many factors that distinguish the interior design concepts of contemporary from modern homes. These factors include styles such as the use of irregular and asymmetrical lines, strong geometric shapes, extensive usage of natural light, flexible layout, large windows, and open floor plans. Additionally, contemporary interior designs are characterized by the use of sustainable and eco-friendly materials, green HVAC, and clerestory windows.

Contemporary designs, however, have gradually evolved from modern stylish designs of the 1920s up to 1950s; hence, both have semblance and correlations despite being distinctly different from each other.

Contemporary vs Modern

This distinction between contemporary and modern design is more of a difference in viewpoints and mentalities. Homes that were built from the 1920s to the 1950s were conceived with different frames of minds and preferences, while homes that are truly contemporary are conceptualized under the mentality and influence of present technologies. These variant viewpoints would surely translate into different styles and tastes. Although a mere 75 years or less separate the modern and contemporary periods, the differences in styles are markedly obvious. For example, if you are prospecting for one of these Raleigh homes for sale, it would surely be advantageous if you could readily distinguish between these two design concepts.

Of course, even if contemporary homes are defined by the abovementioned characteristics — such as the use of strong geometric and asymmetrical lines — contemporary homes will never be complete without incorporating state-of-the-art technologies to the interior designs. And one type of technology that could make your home truly contemporary is a home automation system.

What is a Home Automation System (HAS)?

Home automation (domotics) is the process of installing building automation for homes. This employment of home automation produces smart homes. HAS allows you to control your home entertainment systems, appliances, lighting, security system, and even the ambient temperature within your home using your smartphone. It employs the use of the Internet of Things (IoT) and machine-to-machine technologies with the concomitant use of powerful sensors, people-counting cameras, smart lighting, and other smart devices.

With home automation system, you can control every smart device in your home. For example, you can configure your rooms in such a way that they have people-counting cameras that could figure out how many people are inside a room in your home. These cameras can create actionable data that could alert your HVAC to lower or raise the temperature in the room. Moreover, powerful sensors can also figure out if a room is unoccupied, and can also produce actionable data to make the light turn on if somebody enters the room and make it turn off if the room is unoccupied. The market for home automation system is definitely growing, and it is estimated to reach $12.81 billion in 2020.

Incorporating Various Smart Devices Into Your HAS

Any smart device can surely be incorporated into your HAS. Each of these smart devices can communicate with each other within the home automation system. New smart devices are manufactured every day, and it is estimated that by the year 2030 there will be around 50 billion smart devices around the world. These smart devices include smart doorbells, smart HVAC, and the abovementioned smart devices, and for this reason, you would surely have enough smart devices to choose from and incorporate into your home automation system in the coming years.
