Traveling With a Toddler

Every parent knows how difficult it is to travel with children. A toddler requires more attention because they’re at an age when they can explore, they can move around, and can easily get hurt. They are also usually in the stage of potty training and are therefore prone to little accidents that can be very inconveniencing when traveling.

There is no particular skill set for traveling with a toddler; however, you may want to consider one or two things when preparing for the trip.

Vaccinations and medical checks

If you’ll be traveling to far-flung places, you may need to vaccinate them, either as a requirement of the recipient country or for your own peace of mind. Schedule their vaccination appointment at least a week before the actual travel because some children react negatively to the vaccinations by developing diarrhea, fever or rashes and you do not want to deal with this when traveling.  Pay a visit to the doctor for a full examination to confirm that it is okay for the toddler to travel.

 Travel insurance

Travel insurance is important because you may get into situations that may need compensation. For example, if you have a car accident, you will require the services of icbc lawyer Vancouver to help you get compensation so that you do not have to deal directly with the insurance companies.

Park right

When traveling with a toddler especially for a car trip it is very important that you park the correct items.  Other than the main bag which will have more items, you need to have a smaller separate bag that you can have at hand all the time.  Some of the items you will need to have in the smaller bag include sanitizing wipes, diapers, enough clothes because they will mess up along the way, a medical kit containing painkillers, fever relievers, band-aids, and thermometer amongst other essentials.

Pack snacks because children do tend to get hungry rather quickly. You can pack vegetables, fruits, water or anything that will not require cooking or warming at that particular point.

 Carry entertainment for the kids

Long distance travel can lead to boredom and you do not want to deal with the tantrums that invariably follow. Make sure you pack their favorite toy or book that can keep them entertained. If it’s a car trip, you can play verbal games or even sing along to their favorite songs.

Traveling with a toddler can be stressful for anyone. You only need to look around at the airport or train station and see the harried mum trying to contain a toddler who is throwing a tantrum for whatever reason. While we are not under any circumstance saying that there is a magic formula for traveling with a toddler, you can, however, make the process easier for you. Choose child-friendly hotels that have amenities that can give you an occasional break when you with the toddler, some hotels actually offer nanny service so that you can get some much-needed rest.
