As with everything in life, preparation is everything!
And the more prepared you are for your summer road trip, the better the experience for you and your family when you finally hit the road.
#1: Plan for fun things on your journey
A road trip isn’t about getting from A to B; it’s about enjoying the journey, and the various sights and experiences that you will take in along the way. Therefore, consider the route you are taking, and then timetable in fun things to do on the way. Of course, we don’t know where you’re going – you have thus far neglected to invite us along – but assuming you are road tripping across the USA, here are some popular routes, with a whole host of things to see and do along the way.
#2: Prepare your car
You need to focus on car safety, as the last thing you want is to experience an accident when you’re touring the highways and byways. Therefore, ensure your car is fit to drive. This includes checking your tires for any potentially problematic bulges, as well as the tread depth and air pressure. Fix any damage, pump them up, or replace them if they have become old and worn. Then check your various fluids, making sure your car has plenty of oil and water, as well as fuel for the trip. Examine your windscreen too, because if there are any chips in it, it could well crack further under the hot summer sun. Such firms as Windshield Replacement Services can help you if you notice any problems. And take your car to the garage before your trip, as an experienced professional might notice something you have failed to see.
#3: Download a few apps on your phone
Clear some space on your phone for these useful road trip apps. You won’t go far wrong on your journey if you do, because using the linked apps as examples, you will have something in the palm of your hand to help you find the nearest and cheapest fuel stations, food places, and hotels on your journey. There’s even a GPS app in there too, which will ensure you don’t get lost should you decide to take the roads less-traveled while away.
#4: Pack your essentials
Get your packing done well in advance to reduce the chances of you forgetting something vital. Essential items include a first-aid kit, non-perishable snacks and drinks, your driver’s ID and other car documents, breakdown tools, games for the kids, and your phone charger. Oh, and don’t forget your toothbrush! There are loads of packing lists online so do a Google search if you are in any way unsure as to what you should take with you.
#5: Plan for the kids
The last thing you want to hear while on the roads are those insufferable phrases ‘I’m bored,’ or ‘are we there yet?’ so ensure your kids have plenty to do. These include card games, books, and DVD’s if you have installed a portable DVD player in your car. There are also games you can play together, including these classic car games, so make a list of anything you think you and your children will enjoy playing. The more they have to occupy them on the journey, the less time they will spend moaning and complaining to you.
By planning ahead of time, you will be fully prepped and ready to go. Fun, adventure and family bonding awaits. We hope you have an excellent time!
