7 Activities to do with Your Kids This Summer

When Summer arrives, many parents wonder how they are going to keep their kids entertained for 2 months. While you can sign them up for Summer camp or music lessons, sometimes you want to do something with them yourselves. If you’re looking for some fun activities you can do with your kids this Summer, here are a few suggestions.

Visit the Beach

Who doesn’t love a day at the beach? You get to sit out in the sun, enjoy a book, build a sandcastle, play in the ocean, and enjoy some treats from the ice cream truck. Of course, depending on where you live, visiting the ocean may not be possible. Instead, look for a local lake that will allow you to get a similar experience. Either way, find a day where the weather looks nice, pack up the car, and head on over for a day of fun and relaxation.

Go for a Hike

Another great outdoor activity is going for a hike. No matter where you live, there are hiking trails nearby that you can explore. Hiking allows you and your kids to get away from technology for a little while and enjoy nature. And depending on the hike, you could even come across some amazing views or hidden spots.

When hiking, be sure to bring along some basic safety supplies. This includes some water, a snack, and your cell phone. It’s also a good idea to look up the trail before you go, so you don’t get lost. Hiking is a great activity for the whole family, but you should keep safety in mind at all times.

Try Out Paddleboarding

If you live near a large body of water, consider getting yourself a paddleboard. Paddleboards are like surfboards, except you stand up on them and paddle your way around calm waters. Paddleboards are great because you don’t need a lot of practice or skill in order to use them, meaning your kids can use them too. Best of all, when the weather gets too hot, you can just jump in the water to cool off. To get started, find a paddle board for sale and look up some instructions online.

Go See a Show

When you want to avoid the Summer heat for a bit, consider going to see a show. Find some local theaters in your area and see what performances are taking place over the Summer. Seeing a show is a great way to expose your children to some culture, while also getting to sit inside an air conditioned theater for a few hours. If there’s no live theaters in nearby, then just head to a movie theater instead.

Sign Up for a Race

Looking for a fun way to get in shape as a family this Summer? Sign up for a race! Every area has different races through the Summer, such as 5ks or 10ks. You and your kids can go for runs each week to prepare, then enter into the race together. By doing it as a family you can not only stay healthier, but motivate one another to finish.

To get started, here are some tips for running your first 5k.

Visit a Museum

If your area has some museums nearby, why not spend a few hours touring it? You can learn a lot about your local area, and escape the heat all at the same time. Most museums are not too expensive, and many even have separate programs for kids. Who knows, you may just inspire your kids to become to world’s greatest historian.

Try an Escape Room

Finally, if your kids are a little older, try out an escape room. Escape rooms are rooms where you and your team members get “locked” into a room, and you have 1 hours to escape. Inside the room are a series of puzzles and clues that you will need to solve in order to get out. You’ll have to go as fast as you can to see if you can get out in under an hour. If you have kids who love puzzles or brain teasers, this is the perfect activity for them.

Get Out of the House This Summer

There are plenty of things to do with your kids no matter where you live. If you’re looking for some family-friendly things you can do this Summer, you have a lot of options from which to choose. Talk to your kids and see what they might like to do, then see what’s available in your area. Go a little outside your comfort zone, and you may just find something you all love to do, and bond over something new going forward.
