Biking the South Bay? Here’s Where You Should Stop Along the Way!

The pull of the outdoors is unrelenting in the South Bay area, with magnificent weather and incredible sights around every turn. Cycling enthusiasts and casual commuters alike often find themselves riding on the trails and tracks designated for their pedal-powered vehicles.

Rides don’t have to be spent entirely in the seat! Here are a few trails and destinations you can hit with your bike that will make your next South Bay outing filled with adventure.

Picnic Outings

With multiple access points and easy entry, the Los Gatos Creek Trail in San Jose is an excellent option for those looking for a relaxing time enjoying nature. Its eight-mile circuit run is completely paved and vehicle free, which keeps it from being taxing and lets you enjoy the plum trees along the path.

Gorgeous sights of the Los Gatos creek will accompany you on your trip, along with stopping points throughout Vasona Lake County Park. These spots are perfect to take in the scenery and have a picnic to space out your trip.

Hitting the Beach

For those looking to take their beach cruisers out for a spin, you’d be hard pressed to find a better ride than the Half Moon Bay Coastal Trail. Consisting of incredible seaside views without the laborious Bayside hills, you’ll be introduced to the scenery that will take your breath away.

Running between Pillar Point Harbor and Poplar Street, this 10-mile circuit is entirely paved. There are even plenty of places to stop and hike down to the beach for some relaxation before the trip back home!

Bike Booking

For a ride that takes a little more work than a spontaneous trip, try reserving a spot on the Bay Ridge trail in Crystal Springs. Needing a reservation means your 10-mile ride will be that much more relaxed with fewer cyclists on the trails, letting you really take in the beauty if long growth Douglass firs and Pacific views.

Alternatively, the one-way ride at Fifield-Cahill Ridge Trail offers a unique trip that ends with a shuttle ride back to the start. While this trail also requires reservations, you’ll get to see the South Bay and its history like never before.

Aerial Attractions

For those not looking for Nature’s wonders but want to take their bikes for men and women out to see something more man-made, the Adobe Creek Loop Trail and South Shoreline Bike Trail in Palo Alto is your best bet. Taking you alongside landing strips and airports you’ll have the opportunity to view smaller planes taking flight.

The South Shoreline Bike Trail is also a great way to watch the aeronautics. While this is a one-way trail, it’s only six miles long, making it an easy there-and-back trip that’s well worth the scenery. If you’re lucky, you might even get to see the blimp take to the air.

The South Bay is known for having incredible views, and cyclists have long taken advantage of them. While you shop online for a new bicycle, consider taking it out on one of these trails to really experience what Los Angeles has to offer!
