Ways to Boost the Curb Appeal of Your Home this Summer

If you’re looking to sell your house over the next few months, or simply want to give your property a facelift, it’s important to spend time working on the exterior appeal.

When people arrive at your address the first thing they’ll notice about your home is what’s on the outside, so by taking steps to give these details a freshen up, you’ll make your property look and feel more modern and luxurious. There are multiple ways to go about boosting the curb appeal of your home this summer.

Decluttering

The first step is to do some decluttering. While you’ve probably already been busy doing that inside, remember that having a bunch of junk or too many outdoor pieces in your yard makes the space look smaller and potentially more rundown. Avoid this by cleaning up your garden areas ASAP to reduce mess.

Be on the lookout for old play equipment that your kids have long grown out of, that’s now looking worse for wear. This includes worn out cubby houses, swings, slides, sandpits, and the like. Also, try to look with fresh eyes at other yard adornments, such as benches, tables, chairs, sun loungers, sculptures, statues, fountains, wheelbarrows, pet beds, tools, and more. The more streamlined and neat and tidy you can make your front and back yards, the better.

Get Lawns and Gardens in Order

Once you’ve decluttered, pay attention to your lawn and gardens. If your lawn is currently looking bare and unhealthy, give it a boost with fertilizer, regular watering, aerating, raking leaves if necessary, and mowing. Cut back the lawn often, but only ever remove a maximum of a third of the leaves at one time. Any more, and you can hurt the grass.

If you don’t have the time or skills to do this kind of regular maintenance, invest in using a lawn care service in Chicago, L.A., Denver, New Orleans, or wherever else you may live. This will ensure that no matter when potential buyers come to look at your property, the lawn won’t let you down.

Tidy up your gardens, too. Remove dead trees, shrubs, or branches, and cut back anything overhanging your house. You may also need to deadhead roses and do other pruning tasks. Plus, if your yard currently looks rather bare, jazz it up and give visitors a better impression by planting new flowers or shrubs. These don’t have to be expensive, and you don’t have to go for a wide variety either; a uniform grouping of a couple of different types of plants can work wonders in the overall impression of your yard, and add much-needed color.

Freshen Up or Add Fences

The fences surrounding your property may also need some attention. This is particularly the case for timber fences, which need maintenance every so often (e.g., painting and oiling). You may need to fix posts that are falling down or attend to latches on fence gates that stick or don’t close properly.

If you don’t currently have any fencing, consider adding one before you put your home on the market. Most homebuyers like a property with a fence as this not only delineates the property boundaries clearly and adds privacy, but also helps to keep pets and children safely inside yards. Visit website of Timber Ridge Fence Company if you want a quote and ask details on what type of fence is best for your home.

Repair Other Fixtures and Fittings

There will likely be other fixtures and fittings needing attention, too. For example, resurface or otherwise repair driveways that have cracks in them, and put a fresh coat of paint over front doors, garage doors, eaves, front steps, etc. Replace door knobs and knockers, not to mention mailboxes as required, and ensure remote garage doors are all working perfectly. Plus, have your roof cleaned and ensure the windows of your home are sparkling.

Install Outdoor Lighting

It’s not something many people think of, but since many house inspections are conducted after dark these days, you want to have correctly lit outdoor areas. This way, visitors will be able to see what they need to of the outer areas of your home, even if it’s nighttime, and they’ll be able to navigate safely around your property, too. Install some outdoor lighting ASAP if you don’t already have it, preferably solar-powered products, as these appeal to potential buyers.

Selling a home is always a stressful undertaking, but you’re going to give yourself the best possible chance of success – a quick sale and high price – if you increase the curb appeal of your property before people come to check it out. Follow the tips above, and your house will be ready for an Open for Inspection date in no time.
