7 Things to Keep in Your Travel Bag When Visiting Latin America

Out of the many places in the world to visit, Latin America is perhaps the most unique location on earth. It offers a unique blend of culture, hospitality, and cuisine in a way that other places don’t. Because of these qualities, it’s no surprise to hear that Latin America always has a steady flow of visitors year in and year out. In the same breath, it’s also easy to see why the Latin American culture has resonated and integrated so deeply within other parts of the world such as the United States.

That being said, there are a few things to consider before visiting Latin America. More specifically, the travel items inside your travel bag are one of the most important things to keep in mind. In many cases, what’s inside your travel bag can allow you to have a great Latin American experience or a dismal one. No to mention, some of these items are as important as keeping you safe when you travel. With this in mind, let’s go over seven things you must keep in your travel bag when visiting Latin America.

#1: A Portable Charger

A general rule when it comes to traveling is to always bring a charger. That said, the same rule applies to when visiting Latin America. Given how technologically dependent we have become, a charger can help you stay on top of your technological needs. In some cases, it can be as important as helping you in cases of emergencies. For this reason, it’s also important to make sure you don’t lose it. It can be difficult to find another one in a foreign land.

#2: Personal Travel Medication

Another general and very important travel rule is to always carry personal travel medication. Simply put, no one ever knows when medical emergencies can happen. In extreme cases, having personal travel medication versus not having it can mean the difference between life and death. What’s unique about most medication is that it is small and easy to store. This means that you should have no problem finding space for it in your travel bag.

#3: Personal Travel Identification Documents

In Latin America, it can be easy to spot a traveler or an outsider. This factor alone can draw suspicion and unwanted attention if you are put in a position where you don’t know what to do. Worth noting, this is just one example of why it is extremely important to have personal travel identification in your bag. In case you are ever pulled over by local officials, your identification can help keep you protected.

#4: A Camera

One of the obvious things about Latin America is that it is beautiful at every turn. From the natural surroundings to luxury accommodations such as the Hacienda Caracol, there is no reason not to have a camera in your bag. The Hacienda Caracol is a good example of how Latin America embraces showing off its beauty and luxury. This is why you will want to capture these moments forever with a camera.

#5: A Change Of Summer Clothes

Another obvious characteristic about Latin America is that the whether is always nice and sunny. This is one of the main reasons why there are always visitors in Latin America in the first place. Because of this, you will also want to keep a change of summer clothes in your travel bag. At a moments notice, local springs or beaches might persuade you to take a dip in the waters.

#6: Cash

Arguably the most important thing to keep in your travel bag is cash. Having cash can serve several factors such as it being used to buy some local food, paying someone off, or handing out a tip. Overall, it just makes your life in Latin America much more convenient.

#7: A Local Map

Almost as important as having cash in your travel bag is having a local map. While most people plan their trip ahead of time to not have to use a map, having one anyways never hurts. Plus, there is always the chance that you can get lost in Latin America. Although, some would argue that getting lost in a place as beautiful as Latin America wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing.
