Working & Playing on the Acer Aspire 5

One of my very first computers I got was an Acer and I remember that desktop computer lasting me forever. Now that my kids are getting more into computers and sharing is of course out of the question (well according to my tweens), I figured Acer was a good brand to start with.

This year my middle son has started middle school and I wanted him to have a laptop he could do his homework on as well as game on. I was not about to go broke though but still wanted certain specs so there would be no excuses or complaining.

The Acer Aspire 5 model I got has been awesome for him. I have yet to hear a peep from him and he has gotten done numerous homework assignments as well as been able to play Fortnite and Roblox – his two must-play games. I admit I had my doubts on a laptop that was less than $400 that could do what he needed and wanted it to do but so far so good!

Here are 10 features of the Acer Aspire 5:

Windows 10 – The newest Windows 10 means it is ready to go and includes all the latest features. It is amazing how far Windows has come and with this Windows it is so easy to visualize and customize menus with what I need. I am a visual person and love seeing all the icons and pictures. While this laptop is not a touchscreen, the visual menus still help.

Powerful – This laptop has handled online gaming (like Fortnite) and that uses a lot of memory and speed. The processor is an AMD Ryzen 3 with Dual-core and 2.6 GHz. Don’t let the thin design fool you!

Graphics – For a laptop under $400, the graphics impressed me and are comparable to me to laptops I have seen over $1000. The graphics card is a Radeon™ Vega 3.

This doesn’t give the graphics justice but trust me they are amazing!

15.6 inch full HD screen – The HD part gives off an amazing picture quality that blows away other laptop screens.

Sturdy case – The top cover is actually aluminum. My son mostly uses this at his desk but he has taken it to a friends house to work on homework. The case seems sturdy and durable which is a must for everyday use. It is a little heavier than others but that just reinforces its durability.

Solid State Hard Drive – In case you haven’t heard of a solid state hard drive, it means basically that you have a way less chance of a hard drive failure as there are no moving parts in the drive. It is said that they offer higher performance than traditional hard drives as well.

7-hour run time – When fully charged, this will run around 7 hours which to me is a good amount of time. For the price of the laptop I don’t mind a shorter battery life and my son doesn’t mind plugging it in when needed.

Affordable – This laptop runs around $350 which is an awesome price. I love that Acer has a reliable laptop brand I can trust.

Ultra-Fast Wireless Speed – This laptop uses a 802.11ac wireless connection which means basically it connects faster than you expect it to! You can enjoy wireless data transfer rates of up to three times faster than those of 802.11n.

Lots of ports and a big touchpad – There are ports for everything I need and then some!

Honestly, I always thought to get a good laptop you had to spend a lot of money and while sure there are features and reasons to spend a lot on a laptop, there is also plenty of reasons you don’t need a fancy laptop. With how technology changes and breaks, I look at it like I’d rather get a new laptop every few years than pay thousands of dollars and be stuck with an outdated laptop because I want to get my money’s worth!

The Acer Aspire Series really is one to check out whether you need a laptop for yourself for fun or work or your child. I have no complaints and I got to be an awesome mom for getting my son a laptop (he thinks it cost over $1000 and I have no reason to tell him otherwise!)
