The Benefits of Preparing For Your Death At An Early Age

You probably do not want to waste your life thinking and preparing for your death. However, as hard as it might seem, you can never know when your time on earth will come to an end. Some people find it hard to make any sort of preparations for their parting, the mere talk about life insurance can cause them anxiety. Others are more pragmatic and believe that this is just another fact of life that they need to prepare for, no matter how soon or late it might happen. Other than practicality, many of these people are thinking about their loved ones and how to save them the trouble of making the necessary arrangements after their deaths. Especially if you are a parent, you want your partner and your children to have the time to grieve and not worry about funeral practicalities.

Read below to find out the many benefits of preparing for your death at an early age:

You Have a Say in Funeral Arrangements

After all, it is your funeral-literally! To start on a lighter note, how many people get the chance to set the tone and theme of their own funeral. The answer is, only a few. Your death will definitely leave your family and loved ones devastated; however, you want to make sure that they spend more time thinking about the life you have enjoyed more than dwelling on the sadness of your death. You get to make your own arrangements and even customize and engrave your own casket or urn should you choose cremation services. You have the chance to be as witty and as humorous as you prefer. You can arrange for “best memories with you” eulogies instead of the often-sad ones. Plan to have your life celebrated and ask your loved ones to be dressed in white, there is no right or wrong, you get to have a saying in how you will be put to rest.

You Will Have Your Finances in Line

Living your days with the conviction of your imminent death can be quite helpful when you are taking care of your finances. Think of it as “working backward”, at any given time, you will be encouraged to have enough savings and be prepared for whatever scenario that transpires. If you are responsible for a family, you will have the chance to make sure they have the money they need to continue enjoying the same comforts of life after you pass away.

Your Loved Ones Will Be Grateful

Even though they will not acknowledge this feeling as such, your family and loved ones will be grateful if you prepare for your own death. The burden of arranging for funeral services or taking care of standing debts will not add to the burden of your passing. Many young adults live their lives accumulating credit card debts, mortgages and student loans thinking they have all the time in the world to pay them off. Unfortunately, when they pass away; they unknowingly leave behind a huge mess for their families to handle. Preparing for your death will save your loved ones such troubles, you will be able to have the peace of mind that you are doing right by them even after you die.

You Will Be a Better Person

Having the idea of your death at the back of your mind will push you to always do good before it is too late. You will be thinking about the legacy you want to leave behind and how you want to be remembered. This will encourage you to do the right thing, be a good person, and be better with your friends and your family. Preparing for your death from an early age will allow you to live to your potential and become the person you aspire to be before you run out of time.

Ironically, You Can Enjoy Life More

Even though dying is a fact we are all well-aware of, a few manage to use this piece of information efficiently. Living your life knowing that there might not be a tomorrow for you, you will be more encouraged to take risks and go on thrilling adventures. You will be encouraged to enjoy life to the fullest while you are still here. However, it is important to understand that this is not the same as living recklessly.

Preparing for your own death does not have to be dark and morbid. On the contrary, use it as a motivation to make good life choices. Live responsibly and always have a plan for how any dues you might have during your lifetime will be paid off once you are gone. Just because you are young, does not mean you have a free pass to live selfishly, accidents, illnesses and sudden deaths are never too far away.
