Things You May Not Need Now But Definitely Should Have In Your Home

A home that is built for the comfort and security of your loved ones is not only a great idea in theory, but it is an incredibly necessary reality. The only other space in which you would conceivably spend a lot of time besides home is the office, which makes investment in the former all the more vital. Now, this does not mean breaking the bank by purchasing all kinds of luxury items you cannot afford, or turning your abode into a Louis XIII style nightmare cluttered with unnecessary gold fixtures. Getting things you might not need now at this very moment for your home is a matter of assessing their value, future practicality, and the measure of comfort they offer.

The following are a few choice items you may not have been aware that you would need right away, but are nonetheless a good addition to your home:

Bread Maker

A bread making machine is one of those things whose utility isn’t really evident till you decide to give it a whirl, only to wonder what you have been doing all your life without it. If you have a good machine, all you need to do is add the ingredients, press “start” in the morning, and come home to the heavenly scent of a perfectly baked, fresh loaf of bread. Sure, you can go through the trouble of kneading your own dough, getting a starter made, and so on, but no one really has the time for that. A machine takes all the guesswork out of the process and makes life that much more enjoyable.

Birdhouse

If you have a garden or backyard, nothing denotes “peaceful idyll” as much as an elegantly crafted birdhouse swaying from a tree. There are many birdhouses or bird feeders out there, some of which you can even DIY. If spring is right around the corner and you expect to enjoy more outdoorsy time with your family, then getting a birdhouse is a wonderful way to celebrate the change in seasons. Not to mention, it’s a great way to teach your kids about the birds and instill in them a love of nature.

DIY “Beautifying” Projects

If you are a handy person around the house with some experience in construction, then you might think of one day beautifying your driveway or fixing some issues in the landscaping of your front yard. Different tools can help make this process a lot easier, and the experts over at https://www.mapleleafropes.com/store/brand/airspade swear by DIY landscaping products, namely Airspade, which offers a safer method for digging and soil excavations. There’s no need to have a background in construction work with this one, since it offers a safe mode of operation that the layman can quickly learn.

Portable Breakfast Station

Now, back to the interior of your home. Another great addition to the kitchen is a portable breakfast station. There are different models available, but most of these retro-style innovations include a coffee maker, hot plate, and oven all in a beautiful, portable structure. These come in especially handy if you have limited space but still want to indulge in a traditional, home-cooked breakfast made quickly before rushing to the office.

Herb Saver

Whether you grow fresh herbs in your garden or buy them in bulk from your local farmer’s market, you’re probably frustrated at the rate in which they curdle and die, too quickly for you to use them. An herb saver is a fairly simple tool – not at all high-tech – that helps by ensuring that the bunches of parsley, basil, thyme, etc., are watered properly and kept in the best temperature possible. It’s a pretty hands-off tool that makes cooking a lot more enjoyable in the long run.

Advanced Shower Heads

Switching up the showerhead in your home is a surprisingly small yet effective step since it can instantly turn your bathroom into a spa. In fact, once you have upgraded to a better model, you’ll be wondering what took you so long in the first place. There are different models that increase water pressure, decrease the amount of “hard” or “soft” water, which can be damaging to your hair and skin; others are handheld, offer different velocities, are filtered, or just offer a wonderful, soothing massage for your muscles. They also come in various price points which tend to be reasonable, so it’s worth shopping around and figuring out the best model for your needs.

While you may be privately debating whether or not you need any of these tools, just think of it this way: half the stuff you already own are not necessities and probably don’t add much of value to your daily life. Also, the definition of necessity is so elastic, it is ultimately up to you how you choose to define it. The things on this list are guaranteed to come in handy at some point – at minimum, they will bring a smile to your face and brighten your days.

  • I own a bread machine years ago and I love it! The fresh breads were amazing and I made my own pizza dough that was perfect. I'm loving the herb saver too, i grow lots of herbs so that would definitely come in handy.

  • I have definitely thought about how nice it would be to have a breadmaker and a birdhouse, and to grow fresh herbs!
