I received product in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.
My kids have always been fascinated by dinosaurs and learning all about the different varieties of them. Technology is something that has been able to bring the extinct dinosaurs to life which has been pretty amazing. Although technology is also something that can be overstimulating for kids and not good if not used in moderation. I know my own kids sometimes get sucked into videos and before I know it they have watched an hour of YouTube.
Now there is a company that has not only created fun little dinosaur-like toys but also an augmented reality aspect to them. Kids can play with physical toys and with the help of an iPhone or iPad they can bring them to life (for now Android devices are not supported.)
Fungisaurs are a genetically engineered, dinosaur-mushroom hybrid species. Unsure of their origins, they are searching for a place to call home, and they’re eager to make new friends. 8 species have been identified so far.
Fungisaurs AR lets you unlock new characters using the Toy Scan and collect up to 8 Fungisaurs.
My 8-year-old daughter was super excited to play with her new Fungisaurs friends. She is all about collecting things at the moment and these toys are definitely unique and fun. She loves the silliness of them. I love that they are sturdy figures and not cheap ones that will break easily. I mean is it really a Pterocap if it doesn’t have two wings?
As far as the AR fun goes, we haven’t been able to try out that part yet due to our iPad being too old and the app wasn’t supported on it. I didn’t even realize it was that old until I thought about when I first got it and wow time does fly! Anyways luckily we were able to see the Fungisaurs interact in our browser over here.
It does look super easy to add Fungisaurs to the app as you just scan them and your child can then read about them or interact with them in the background. It allows kids to still play with toys but add a tech aspect to the fun.
Honestly I love that this toy is both physical and virtual as it creates a nice balance for kids with both. My daughter loves playing with the figures and taking photos of them in various spots outside with my phone. I’m hoping for an Android version of the app but until then she will have her fun with the figures and when we can head to grandmas she has an iPhone she can use for the Fungisaurs app.
In order to unlock all 8 characters on Fungisaurs AR, you’ll need the Mystery Box Toys! Want them all? Go for the Complete Set, which guarantees all 8 characters.
