For whatever reason last year, I started stocking up on puzzles to have on hand. Those puzzles were a lifesaver when quarantine started as they gave us something to work on together and something to make us feel accomplished. The puzzles we did were all traditional puzzles ranging from 500-2000 pieces but I admit we all got tired of them at the end.
Now with the possibility of a long fall/winter season stuck inside I have been trying to stock up on some new things to keep us occupied.
Did you ever think a puzzle could actually be a craft kit? To me, those are usually two different things but a company called Allesimo has found a way to combine them plus with a 3D aspect. Yes, a way to complete a puzzle in 3D mode and then add clay to it to bring more life to it!
The Allessimo Clay Puzzles will keep your kids busy for hours! First, they have to build it, then they cover it in clay and then they get to play with it! This toy, which it’s hard to categorize it as “just a toy” is really three things in one.
I gave one kit to my 9-year-old daughter and one to my 12-year-old son and they literally spent all afternoon on them. They were super easy to put together thanks to the numbers on the pieces that you just match up, although my daughter did learn that you need to make sure to push the pieces together tightly.
Once together kids can start covering them with clay. This is a great way to create something out of clay without 1) using a whole lot of clay to make it solid and 2) having to shape an object yourself. My kids loved the puzzle underneath as a template to help them form the clay to it.
After the clay is done then your kids is really to play with it or display it. My daughter is excited to incorporate her new unicorn with her dolls and my son is going to display his on his shelf in his room.
Allessimo doesn’t stop though at just wooden puzzle pieces and clay, they also give some accessories such as eyes, hair and more. So basically your child really gets to be creative and show off your personality while creating something.
I admit I as skeptical these kits would really keep my kids busy but they did and still are. I actually used this as art class for them since they have those classes at home now and they asked to keep going. I definitely will be stocking up on more kits for the winter! I think there really is something to be said about building and customizing something on your own.
As far as ages go, these kits are for ages 5 and up which I think is fitting. As long as a parent can help push pieces in tight if needed or hold while clay is molded around the animal then I think its perfect. My kids were able to complete these kits completely on their own and I enjoyed watching them with their creations.
Shop on the Allessimo website or you can find Allessimo on Amazon. There are tons of 3D puzzles that use either paints or clay. Click here to save 15% off an Allessimo puzzle using the code CHERISE15.
