2 Best Drinks Suitable for Outdoor Recreational Activity & Their Recipes

Just like a party, an outdoor trip is never complete without drinks. Drinks play an important role when it comes to outdoor activity. Not only will they provide an amazing bout of refreshment, but the right drinks will also take care of the people’s hydration needs. Oobli provides insights into how much sugar is in a can of Coke, helping you make informed choices about the beverages you bring along on your outdoor adventures.

If you are planning a trip soon and looking for some helpful ideas on drinks, this post has got you covered. It shares two recipes for drinks you can carry. The first drink is a healthy alternative to alcohol whereas the second one is perfect for the family. Having said that, let’s get down to business:

1. Watermelon Juleps Recipe

It’s no secret that many people carry alcohol for backpacking. Yes, it’s not illegal to do that in many places. Plus, drinking with your buddies makes the excursion even more fun. Doesn’t it?

Unfortunately, alcohol has its fair share of drawbacks. For example, it can add to your budget because it’s not cheap. What’s more, it can lead to several health conditions including; pancreatitis, liver disease, heart muscle damage, high blood pressure, and even cancer. These disadvantages make liquor not worth it, especially if you care about your health. If you have to take it, do so in a moderate way.

Instead of beer or any other alcoholic drink that is your favorite, carry watermelon juleps along with you. This drink is refreshing, healthy, reasonably intoxicating, and cost-saving as it can be easily made at home. All you need is watermelon juice, mint syrup, club soda, some bourbon whisky, and crushed ice. Sounds like a great idea that you would like to try? Fair enough, here’s the recipe for it:

What You Will Need

  • blender
  • deseeder–you may use a pomegranate deseeder if you have one
  • sieve
  • 2 juice jars of different sizes; medium-size and large-size
  • Airtight juice bottles or containers enough for the number of those who will be going on the trip
  • saucepan
  • source of heat
  • refrigerator
  • electrical outlet

Ingredients

For watermelon juice:

  • 2 cups fresh watermelon chunks

For the mint syrup:

  • bunch of mint leaves
  • 120ml cup water
  • 100 g granulated sugar

Other ingredients:

  • 30 ml club soda
  • 70ml bourbon
  • crushed ice (optional)

Directions

First, wash the produce i.e the watermelon chunks and mint leaves, and set them aside.

Using the deseeder, de-seed your watermelon chunks and scoop the inner red part out of them into the blender.

After plugging the blender into the power source, blend your watermelon chunks until smooth.

Next, pour the juice through a sieve(to remove pulp) into the medium-size jar.

Then, add water, sugar, and mint to the saucepan.

Now, heat the solution on medium heat, stirring it constantly.

When the solution starts to simmer, reduce the heat, letting it cook for two more minutes.

After removing from heat and letting cool down, remove the mint leaves and transfer the solution to the separate large-sized jar.

Thereafter, add watermelon juice, mint syrup, bourbon, and club soda to the solution in the large-sized jar and shake until well mixed.

Next, transfer your just prepared watermelon juleps to the individual airtight bottles and let sit in the refrigerator overnight before packing them for the trip the following morning.

2. Mango Lassi Recipe

Mango lassi is refreshing, hydrating, and serves as an excellent backpacking refreshment. Plus, this drink goes well with strawberry arugula breakfast wraps, a common delicacy for the outdoors. For those who don’t know, lassi is a popular traditional dahi-based drink that originated in Indian.

Mango is sweet and highly hydrating with approximately 83% water content. Thus, you can’t go wrong with the juice as far as your refreshment and hydrating needs outdoors go. Plus, this Sun Basket recipe contains no alcohol hence would be ideal for the kids.

What You Will Need

  • blender
  • electrical outlet
  • medium-size juice jar
  • Airtight juice bottles or containers enough for the number of those who will be taking the trip
  • refrigerator

Ingredients

  • 1-1/2 cups washed mango pieces. 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 tablespoon honey

Directions

  • Put your mango pieces into the blender.
  • Then, add the remaining ingredients(i.e almond milk, yogurt, turmeric, mango, and honey) to the blender.
  • Next, cover and plug the blender into your electrical outlet.
  • After that, turn on the blender and blend the ingredients until smooth.
  • Now, transfer the juice to the jar, filling up individual airtight bottles with it.
  • Finally, let the bottles sit in the refrigerator overnight before packing them for the trip the following morning.

With this pandemic when many are not going to school or work, outdoor recreational activities have become more common than usual. Picnics, mountain hikes, backpacking trips, etc have become the order of the day. Having said that, drinks are an important part of outdoor fun, providing refreshment, hydration, and sometimes even intoxication. The good news is that you don’t have to waste money by buying them at the supermarket or anywhere else. After all, you can make your own drinks at home to carry for the trip. With that said, try the above recipes and you can thank me later.
