Adventerra Games – Educational and Environmental

I received products in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.

I am all about games and am always looking for new games to include in our family game nights. With my kids having more time at home too and less time with schoolwork, I have been looking for educational games as well to help bridge school and playtime.

Adventerra Games is a company that makes games “designed to make children aware of environmental issues through actions and concrete examples (waste reduction, recycling, use of renewable energy, etc.).”

All of the Adventerra games even use environmentally friendly raw materials (both recycled and recyclable), and instead of plastic, they use sustainable wooden pieces and biodegradable film made from sugar cane.

Here are three new games from Adventerra Games:

WaterGame

This easy-to-play cooperative game is a big hit with kids!  Players roll dice, float down the river, and draw “Saving” and “Wasting” cards to learn how to save water in everyday life, as well as “Quiz” cards (based on 4th grade science standards).

Depending on your skill level, use counting or simple arithmetic to track how many gallons of water you have. It’s such a fun race down the river that you might not notice you’re learning science facts and practicing reading & math!

Unlucky players can use the Community Water Tank, which relies on donations from luckier players.  If the tank is empty when someone needs it, everyone loses – so don’t let your friends run dry!

The WaterGame is great because it is a cooperative game, like the others, and it really does teach about water conservation. I am amazed how much I learned from this game and it is a great way to play as a family and learn a thing or two!

Recycle Rally

Drive recycling trucks around town and maximize your score by collecting higher-value materials.  But sort carefully! If too many recyclables are left behind, useful stuff is incinerated and the whole town is in trouble.

This game is a fun way to get your family talking about what happens to your trash, and why some materials (like plastic) are less valuable on the recycling market than others (like metal or paper).  We hope it will help you think about where a new item will end up before you purchase it!

PowerHaus

This game teaches kids they have real power to fight climate change!

Players live together in an inefficient house that wastes energy, and must make changes to reduce utility bills. As you move through the game, decide which habits to change, and which appliances and home improvements are better for your wallet and the world. On each turn, you’ll gain or lose money depending on the investments you’ve made – so choose wisely!

I love that these games are different than all the popular games of today. I wish they were around when my boys were younger as they would have loved a game about a recycle truck! The games are a great way to teach kids something about the world around them while having the fun of a game. I feel like it is so hard for kids to get connected to the environment and how it works because there are so many distractions out there.

Some of the games even have another level to play for older players so the game can grow with your child or even just be incorporated with various ages.
