How To Keep The Love Alive As A New Mom

When you have kids, you have a lot to think about. Practically speaking, you’re spending most of your time managing your baby and ensuring that they’re okay. You have way less time for yourself or your partner.

Most parents understand this intuitively and make accommodations. New dads know that mom won’t be as available as she used to be, mainly because of the sheer amount of work involved in raising a child.

Keeping the love alive as a new mom, however, is essential. Everyone needs to feel as though they are a valuable member of the family unit. If they don’t, it’s not good for the parents. And it’s certainly not good for the kids.

So how do you keep the love alive as a new mom? Take a look at some of these ideas.

Spend Time Hugging When Greeting Each Other

It might sound like a simple thing, but taking the time to greet and hug each other is an important ritual that can make all the difference in your relationship.

The way therapists recommend you do it goes something like this: When your spouse or partner walks through the door at the end of a busy day, you both commit to a kiss and a cuddle. Spend at least seven seconds with your lips in contact with theirs. And don’t think about anything else. Make those fleeting moments all about your relationship with each other.

This seemingly simple action is a tool that you can use to prioritize what matters to you in your life. It lets both parents know that they are important to the other, even when there are a million and one things to do.

Go On Dinner Dates Every Week

While there’s nothing wrong with family relationships, sometimes parents need one-on-one action. That’s why it is nice to leave the kids with a babysitter and head out of the house on a date – just like the good old days.

If possible, try going on dinner dates of one kind or another every week. Make it clear to your partner that you look forward to and value your time with them. Use your dates as an opportunity to enjoy each other’s company and just to live in the moment. Leave all the horrible conversations about schools, money, and the future until you get back home. Focus exclusively on joy.

Dress Up

Dressing up today is easier than ever before, especially with so many Valentines t shirt designs to choose from. But it is also crucial from the perspective of your relationship.

When you make an effort for your partner, it shows that you care. You’re letting them know that you still value the way you appear to them and that you want to make them happy. When you do it exclusively for them, it helps to solidify the relationship and keep things spicy.

When it comes to dressing up, the direction you take depends on your partner’s preferences. Sometimes they want raunchy – sometimes elegant. If you’ve been with them long enough, you should know what they want.
