Video conferencing, am I right? 2020 was the year for video conferences, meetings, and more to take off. This is because it’s the safest way for masses of people to communicate face to face, in real time, during the pandemic. While it has definitely made lives easier in a lot of ways, there’s no denying that they can be a hassle. Technical difficulties are bound to occur in nearly every video conference, and then there’s the fact that it can be uncomfortable to sit hunched over your laptop for extended periods of time. Fear not – there are ways to make the experience a more pleasant one. Keep reading to find out what they are.
Look, you didn’t want to wake up early and stare into the faces of your colleagues over a small screen. I get it. But you had to, so you might as well make the best of it. Believe it or not, but actively engaging in the conversation is likely to be more entertaining and help time go by faster than just sitting there, zoning out, and waiting for time to pass. If you really want to get in a good mood, try using some fun Zoom backgrounds, like LEGO Zoom backgrounds.
Imagine this: you’re in the middle of a three-hour long meeting, and suddenly you’re thirsty. Like really, really thirsty, where your throat feels like sandpaper. And you have nothing to drink close to you. You can’t get up and walk to the fridge either, because you might miss something important. It’s not a fun image, right? That’s why you should always be prepared. Keep a glass or bottle of water close to you so that you can sip it when you need to. If you need something to wake you up, you can even make yourself a cup of coffee or tea prior to the meeting.
Is there anything more frustrating than trying to coordinate with your superiors and colleagues, but not being able to because the platform you’re all on keeps giving you issues? There are loads of video conferencing apps and platforms, and they all have their own pros and cons. You need to find one that suits your needs, and you’ll likely only achieve this through trial and error. For example, big corporate companies may use a different platform than small businesses.
You’re likely going to be doing a lot of video conferences, often for hours at a time. So, why would you want to do it in an uncomfortable position? There’s no reason for you to sit crammed at your desk; you can easily sit in a comfortable chair in your lounge. Some people even participate in video conferences from their beds. And the good thing about video calls is that they tend to only show the upper half of your body, meaning you can wear pajama bottoms all day if you want. Basically, video conferences will be much less of a dreaded event if you’re comfortable. Not to mention the fact that keeping your body in uncomfortable positions for too long could lead to various issues, such as bad posture or back pain. If that’s the case, try some yoga poses to ease the pain and also get you in the right headspace for your meeting.
