Volunteer Reflection Activities for the New Year

2020 is behind us and it’s time to start the year fresh! New beginnings is also a good time to reflect on the ways we give back to those around us. January can be the month where we look into volunteer opportunities our families can engage in this year.

Volunteering is also a great way to spend quality time as a family and to teach your kids the value of giving back to those who aren’t as fortunate as them. You can gather supplies to support your local school or your kids can pair up with an isolated senior to keep them company while the state of the world remains uncertain.

In addition to finding ways to volunteer, you can also find ways to teach your family the value of reflection. Individually journaling or casually chatting about your experience over dinner are a couple ways you can get your kids thinking even more about what they’ve gained from their volunteer experiences and how their altruism can really make a difference.

Reflecting on experiences by yourself can be helpful, too. You can take as much time as you want to think about your experience and dive into what it meant for you.

Finally, your kids can also reflect on their experience on their own as well. They can write out or draw about their volunteer experience. You can also let them do their page on their own and chat about it together afterwards.
