Sistine Chapel Immersive Experience {Oakbrook, IL}

I received tickets in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.

My 9-year-old recently has shown an interest in artists and their art, so much so that she actually made a powerpoint presentation for fun (practicing those new skills) featuring her favorite artists and their popular paintings. While I am not a huge art lover, I am all about exposing my kids to their interests.

If you live near Chicago, there is a new immersive experience featuring works from Michaelangelo from the Sistine Chapel. Running from May 19th through August 15th, art lovers can view Michelangelo’s renowned ceiling frescoes from the Vatican’s Sistine Chapel, reproduced photographically and artfully displayed in their original size.

Visitors can experience every detail, every brushstroke, and every color of the artist’s 34 frescoes all in an exhibit here near Chicago.

The exhibit focuses on some of the most famous pieces in the collection including The Last Judgment and The Creation of Adam. The ceiling paintings have been reproduced using state-of-the-art technology and they are actual sized but up close for viewers to actually see everything up close. Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to think when I read that they are re-created and not actual works but they are truly amazing to experience up close.

My daughter was amazed at the detail and how many brushstrokes were in each painting. The painting “The Last Judgement” actually has over 300 figures which is not only a huge painting but that is a whole lot of faces with all that detail to create. This was probably our favorite painting because of amount of detail he included and how amazing it was to just look at everything going on in it.

The Creation of Adam is probably the most recongnizable painting by Michaelango.

Honestly, we were amazed at the whole exhibit and enjoyed just walking from painting to painting. There is a recording you can listen to as you view each painting to explain more about it and what was going on that is just a few minutes, just long enough to space out so all guests can enjoy some time with each art piece. You can also read the signs next to eat piece of art in English or Spanish.
