Could Running Your Own Business Give You the Lifestyle You Want?

When you become a parent, your lifestyle changes. Your priorities change. Everything changes. Of course, children will impact your work. You want to make sure that you’re bringing in good money to provide them with a good quality of life and financial stability growing up. At the same time, you want to make sure that your life doesn’t revolve solely around work, as you want to make sure you’re spending time with them rather than being chained to your desk. So, what can you do to strike a good balance? Now, there are a number of different options, but one of the best is to set up your own business. Sure, this may sound daunting, or even laughable for some, but there’s no reason you can’t set up your own company and become your own boss;! When you do this, you can earn a lot of money and keep it for yourself, rather than it going in someone else’s back pocket. You also gain a lot of control over your working life. You can choose where you work, working from home if you please. You can choose what hours you work, allowing you to fit work around your children. You don’t have to request time off, you can just take it. The list goes on and on. If this sounds good to you, what will you need to do to get off to the best start? Here are some suggestions to help you with your first steps!

Outsourcing vs. In-House Staff

Of course, you’re going to find that you can’t do everything yourself. Certain tasks require years of training, specific knowledge and extensive experience. You also can only do so much work alone in a day. When things get up and running, you don’t want to find yourself caught up in basic admin when you should probably be focusing on other areas that are more progressive for your business. Some roles you may want to think about getting help with include:

  • Web design
  • Web development
  • UX
  • Marketing
  • API Testing
  • Manufacturing
  • Admin
  • Customer service

So, who will provide this help you need? You have two main options.Outsourcing or building an in-house team. Most small business owners opt for the first.

What Kind of Business Will You Run?

A key thing you need to decide on is what kind of business you’re going to run. What are you going to sell? There are countless products out there on the market, and chances are, you’re not going to come up with something entirely new and innovative. So, if you have an idea in mind, ask yourself, what will set your product apart from competitors? What will make customers buy your products instead of someone else’s similar offerings on the market? Good areas to focus on here include price point, quality, brand, marketing and customer service.

These are just two, straightforward steps you’re going to have to take early on in the business development process. It may sound like a lot of work, but it will be worth it when you get the lifestyle you enjoy!
