Driving & Digging With Real Construction Equipment at Dig This {Las Vegas}

I received a discount in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.

My 15-year-old has always loved construction trucks, so much so that one year he even went as one for Halloween.

Five years ago we made the trek to New Jersey for Diggerland which is a construction truck theme park. It was amazing but the trucks are more stationary for safety concerns and restricted, plus my kids were not old enough to really drive anything significant. Fast forward to this year and we were heading to Las Vegas for a family vacation and I came across Dig This.

What is Dig This?

Dig This offers a unique family-friendly experience in Las Vegas where kids ages 3 and up can experience real construction equipment. Kids ages 3 and up can enjoy stationary machines and dig but the real fun starts at 8-years-old which is the age where kids can operate equipment on their own. Participants ages 8 and up can drive a 6-ton Excavator or a Skid Steer Track Loader. Here you can find high-quality excavators under $100k.

My 10-year-old daughter was nervous and not sure she could do it but was so happy I booked her on the Skid Steer Track Loader. Each set of machines has a worker assigned who wears a headset to talk to an operator and guide them with instructions. As a bystander, I could have listened in as well from the sidelines. It was amazing to see her cruising around on this giant machine and completing obstacles and tasks!

For ages 12 and up, depending on age, there are three machines to try out: Big Dig Excavator, Big Dig Bulldozer and the Big Dig Backhoe Loader. Older participants can also choose multiple machines or an Aggression Session where they can crush cars!

My 13 and 14-year-old sons chose the Big Dig Excavator so they could compete against each other! The machines are HUGE and again they are guided by a worker who is on the ground talking to them thru headsets. The worker can also remotely stop any machine if he needs to. With these machines, they completed a series of three exercises including building huge mounds, digging gigantic trenches, stacking 2,000-pound tires, and playing Excavator Basketball.

My husband did not want to miss out on the fun and couldn’t decide on what to operate so he chose the Big Dig Backhoe Loader since it is a combination of machines. He works a desk job so being able to operate a giant machine with his hands was exciting for him. With this machine, he had to dig a big hole with the excavator, backfill with the loader and then finish up carefully stacking tires into a pyramid.

Seriously for my family, this was an amazing experience and something they may never do again. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience and it was worth every penny seeing their smiling faces. The ability to actually drive and operate the machines on their own and have actual tasks to do with them made it even better than just going up and down with gears. My kids have already asked to go back and drive another machine!
