Balancing Literally While Working From Home

Since 2020 my husband has been working from home and while it has been great to have him home, he has faced many challenges. We do have a home office but it was not really designed for everyday working. Our office is above the garage and therefore gets really hot or really cold depending on the season so for the summer he has moved down to the basement and set up shop down there. He is also a fidgety person and not used to sitting in a chair all day.

The first step from working from home was a standing desk because he is on calls a lot and likes to pace for them while he works.

Next up was a good headset for all his conference calls and a charger on his desk. He’s been thru two headsets so far and found that its worth spending extra money on a good one for comfort and sound quality.

A portable monitor or a tv in our case helped so he could multi-task screens. I honestly have never used a second monitor until recently trying his and wow does it make a difference to see emails on one screen while working on another.

Finally, I noticed that he fidgets at his desk and he actually borrowed some of our daughter’s fidget toys to use. I thought something more permanent would be helpful and so I got him a Whirly Board.

Why get an adult a Whirly Board?

The Whirly Board combines balancing and fitness which then also helps the user focus. My husband absolutely loves that he can spin and balance around while standing at his desk working. He says it helps him stay focused and loves that it works his core muscles as well.

The great thing about the Whirly Board is its portable and pretty lightweight so it can be used anywhere. Like when my husband is done with work, my kids grab it for some fun and exercise on their own. My kids are even using it to practice their hockey and soccer skills.

I honestly had no clue the Whirly Board would be such a hit in our house and have multiple uses. It is truly something that gets used everyday in our house and when not in use it is easily pushed under the desk or behind the couch.
