The Benefits of Organic Skincare Ingredients

You’ll likely analyze the different ingredients when looking for the right skincare products. If you’re like many people, you’ve become more aware of what goes into the products you purchase, and you don’t want anything that could potentially harm your skin.

One way to ensure you have products with ingredients that work and don’t harm your skin is to look for more natural or organic options. Organic ingredients are common in many skincare products, but not all brands and products are as good as others. When trying to find items to use, it’s wise to look at the ingredient list and pick options that aren’t filled with extra, artificial ingredients.

To help you figure out how natural ingredients help your skin, here’s a list of some of the more common and helpful organic skincare components and how they benefit the skin.

What Is Organic Skincare?

Before getting into the benefits of some ingredients, it’s worth going over the definition of organic skincare. Organic ingredients must be made from plants, but these plants cannot be grown with synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. They cannot be genetically modified.  Many brands have plant-derived ingredients, but these ingredients are not organic. So, be diligent when looking at products, as some places may claim to be organic when they are actually just plant-based.

However, the exact levels of plant-derived products in organic skincare products can vary, and the different rules depend on the kind of product. So, keep this in mind when you see something with the organic label.

Ingredient 1: Green Tea Extract

While green tea might be a delicious drink, it’s also a common ingredient in many organic skincare options. This is because green tea has high levels of antioxidants, and there’s evidence that this can reduce inflammation.

So, if you want something that soothes your skin, See here for items like creams and gels that contain green tea.

Ingredient 2: Oats

The great thing about many organic ingredients is they are familiar. They won’t be a word you’ve never heard of before; instead, you’ll feel comfortable using elements you recognize.

Oats are another familiar ingredient in many skincare options for the face and body. And, the great thing is that colloidal oatmeal is approved by the FDA for addressing skin irritation.

Look for products with oatmeal if you’re dealing with dry skin or other issues like minor rashes. You can also use oats in your bathwater for a soothing soak that refreshes your entire body.

Ingredient 3: Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a natural ingredient found in many foods we eat, such as citrus fruits. This vitamin is vital for your body as it helps boost your immune system. But, it also has excellent properties to help your skin.

Vitamin C is standard in all kinds of skincare products because it addresses signs of aging. It helps your skin create collagen, which leads to firmer and smoother skin. Try adding a vitamin-C-based serum to your skincare routine.

Ingredient 4: Witch Hazel

This ingredient has been used in all kinds of home and health products for hundreds of years. And, today, you’ll see it listed as an ingredient for many toners. This is because witch hazel is great for controlling oily skin and limiting the appearance of redness. It’s also a good product to use for cleaning minor cuts, but don’t use witch hazel astringents on your face as these can dry the skin out.

These are just some of the best and more common organic skincare ingredients you’ll find. There are others that target other skin issues, such as acne. So, always do your research or talk to a dermatologist for suggestions for your specific skincare desires.
