7 Ways You Can Improve Your Home’s Curb Appeal

If you are trying to prepare your home for wintertime then there are many things that should be on your checklist. Making sure your home is suitable for winter conditions is the best thing you can do as a homeowner. Summer can take its toll on your home but not as much as winter can. Preparing it now will ensure your home doesn’t suffer any ill effects from the elements. If you aren’t sure how to go about fixing your curb appeal and making your home look appealing in winter then take a look below for some inspiration.

Coat Of Paint

If your home has seen better days and the summer has taken its toll on your home exterior then this is nothing that a coat of paint won’t solve. Painting your home in winter can be tricky as you need to do it on a day when it won’t rain. Rain is always possible in winter so be sure to check the weather report before you plan on painting your home. When painting your home, you need to get a color that matches closely with the existing one. Try a color match on a part of the home that can’t be seen close up so you know which one to use.

Pool Area

If you have a pool in your garden then this will need to be sorted and maintained before the winter sets in. If you only use your pool in the summer months then you will need to make sure it is looked after before you put the cover over it. If your pool decking area needs to be maintained or repaired then this is a good time to get it done. If you have tried to do a DIY job on your decking and it has gone wrong then you may need to look into pool deck resurfacing to get it fixed for you.

Fix The Lawn

Something else that you need to do to ensure your curb appeal is looking in top form is to mow your grass and keep it neat and tidy. During the colder months, your grass won’t grow as much as in the warmer months. However, you do still need to take care of it to ensure it doesn’t start to look patchy. If your grass is looking worse for wear then you can get some lawn repair kits to improve the overall appearance.

Clear Driveway

If your driveway has become overrun with weeds and moss, as is common during the summer months you will need to clear it. Having a nice clear driveway will improve the overall appearance of your property. When people come over to visit, they won’t be met with an unkempt driveway. Instead, they will see a lovely, clean driveway that has been well cared for. If you don’t have the time or the tools to take care of your own driveway then you can hire someone to take care of the weeds for you.

Weather-Proof Furniture

If you are not afraid of a bit of cold weather then you may still want to sit in your garden over the winter time. This is not uncommon and all you need is to invest in some weather-proof furniture. This won’t crack or break when the ice, snow, or frost hit and will last for many winters to come. If you like your comfort then don’t be afraid to whack some pillows and even a throw on your outdoor furniture. Just remember to take them inside at the end of the day, so they don’t feel the effects of the cold. This can cause them to become damp and mold will grow. In some cases, a staging area like a porch and vinyl porch railing installation will give you a comfortable palace to relax, and shelter that furniture for longer.

Lighting

If you are wanting to improve your curb appeal then one thing you must think about is lighting. Lighting is important, especially with winter fast approaching. You don’t want to be making your way up to your home in the dark as the days get shorter. When it comes to lighting, it is best placed on your porch or next to your front door. This shouldn’t be too harsh that it blinds you on your way in, but bright enough so you can see what you are doing. Make sure that you are only using bulbs that contain a good energy rating, this will be more friendly on your electricity bills.

Hardy Plants

Finally, if you want to make sure your garden is filled with color during the winter months then you could look into getting some hardy plants. These would look lovely around your border or on your porch in some colorful pots. Inject some color and some joy into your garden, some great hardy winter plants include Sedum, Heather, and Snapdragon. These blossom with some beautiful flowers all year round.
