A New Way to Play at Activate {Oakbrook, IL}

I feel like this summer we had more cooler or rainy days than normal so I was on the lookout for indoor activities to do with my family. Having teenagers it is definitely a challenge to find something that everyone will enjoy and think is fun.

Activate is an entertainment center in Oakbrook, IL that calls themselves the “world’s first active gaming facility.” It is a great family activity center that has something for everyone.

How Activate Works:

First, you buy admission and get a wristband. You also get a wristband for a locker to lock up your stuff because you definitely don’t want to be lugging around a purse and coats.

Next up you head inside and there are tons of rooms filled with the interactive games. You can start anywhere in the facility and you just scan your wristband to enter each room.

Each room has games that take 1-3 minutes with varying difficulty levels. Once you are inside if there is no one waiting to get in you have the option to play again or change your difficulty level.

Your electronic wristband tracks your progress so you can rack up points, advance through the levels, earn prizes, and gain the reputation as the best in your group. It is cool to see your points while playing and at the end.

The games are all different but all electronic. There are laser ones, shooting ones, climbing ones and so many different choices. I honestly was amazed at how they came up with so many different games. With there being so many different options we never had to wait more than a minute for a game and even then we could have just picked a different game room to enter.

Honestly, if you are looking for an affordable family activity, Activate is a great way to spend about 1.5 hours together. You really can do a lot in that time and all the games involve working together and of course, you don’t want to be the one to let the group down. We honestly came out of Activate laughing and sweating! It is teenager approved which is not an easy feat!
