Recaro Car Seat Review – Love it!

With so many products out there for kids, moms can go crazy trying to decide what they need, what is safe, and what is the best fit for their kids. A car seat is no different, and with it being a major factor in your child’s safety in a car and with them being in a car seat for so many years, you definitely want one to last and be the best. Now I was clueless as to what I needed to look for in a car seat so I started researching like crazy as I do every product I purchase!

Then I found a company called “Recaro.” Founded in Germany in 1906, Recaro initially made car bodies for cars like Porsche 356, VW Beetle, and the BMW 328. From tailor-made racing shells to stock seats for renowned vehicle manufacturers, Recaro has been making car travel safe and pleasant. In 2005, Recaro decided to add child restraints for the US to their collection.

Right now Recaro has 6 car seat models in 3 separate collections. The 3 collections are: Convertible, Toddler, and High Back Booster. Each car seat has it benefits and really the only difference between Convertible and Toddler is that the Convertible style can be placed rear facing, as its weight conditions are different. The High Back Booster model is obviously just a booster seat design that is super lite (11 lbs.) and is for kids age 3-12 years old. I actual like the Toddler style the best because it seats such a large span of a child’s life and encompasses everything I am looking for.

I received the Young Sport model car seat in the color Midnight Desert to check out and it is awesome! I love it and not just because it matches my car (I have a black minivan with beige interior!) How does Aidan like it? He loves it and the best part is that he actually sits nice in it and doesn’t complain and move around. I think this car seat just fits him more comfortably and plus it is made of this super soft microfiber material that I wish my seats were made of!

(Of course I couldn’t get him to smile for the camera!)

Features of the Young Sport Model:
  • Latch system with Top tether – I just got a car with the latch system and it is so nice to hook a car seat too and it really makes it tight.
  • Approved for airplane use and has a carrying handle.
  • Hand – washable cover. It also spot cleans really easy!
  • The range is: 1-12 years and 20-80 lbs. Also, the maximum child height is 59 inches. (This car seat is not meant to be rear facing.) I love it because you can remove the bottom padding and adjust the headrest so it can be a booster-like seat.
  • Incredibly Safe design includes: Energy-absorbing head wings, Energy-absorbing support for mid-section, and Structural support for high & thigh.

The Recaro Young Sport is such an innovative design that not only does it fit your one year old but also it grows with your child. I love that it has all the safety features I am looking for, but still looks like a big boy car seat once Aidan starts thinking he is too big for a car seat. To convert it to a booster seat, all you have to do is adjust the headrest up and remove the 5-point harness and seat cushion. Very easy to install, configure, and yet it is still safe. The only feature that I was not sure about at first was the headrest can be a tight fit, but then again I started thinking of Aidan’s head bobbing around and how when he sleeps his head slumps over. With the headrest the way it is, I have noticed that Aidan can rest his head comfortably against it.

Like I mentioned in the features section, Recaro car seats are built with safety in mind. One fact they mention on their website is “1 in 4 accidents resulting in the injury or death of a child are caused by side impact collisions.” I never really thought about the side impact and how energy-absorbing features would be helpful, but comparing the Recaro to Aidan’s old car seat I definitely see the difference. The Recaro design actually comes standard with Side Impact Protection (SIP) and contours to Aidan’s body and provides support exactly where it should be. I mean what is the purpose of a car seat other than to protect children, so what better way to protect them than by using a car seat from a company that knows about safety. I mean Recaro is known for their racing shell designs, so I figure if a company makes racing shells to protect dangerous race car drivers then they must know how to make a safe seat!

I look back now at how clueless I was about car seats and now I feel I have made a wise and safe decision by choosing Recaro for my sons. I still have Gavin in the infant carrier, but as soon as he is ready to upgrade, I am definitely purchasing him his own Recaro seat. They just are such awesome car seats both in design and safety standards. Even though the Recaro seats do cost a little more, I love this saying I found on their website:
