Diane Birch "Bible Belt" CD Review & Giveaway (Ends 7/2)

As far as music goes, I pretty much am open to anything. I have gone through phases in my life where certain genres appealed to me more than others because of what I was going through at the time. Now in my life I like music that makes me forget about my daily stresses and lets me relax. So when I received the Diane Birch debut CD Bible Belt, I was skeptical at first. Honestly, the word “Bible” is what threw me, I thought it was a gospel CD or something similar. Actually, the CD is amazing and not preaching or gospel-like!

Diane Birch is a singer-songwriter that used music as an escape, like us all. She was born in Michigan, but spent time with her preacher father in Zimbabwe, South Africa, Australia before settling in Portland, Oregon. You can tell through her music that she has a unique perspective on life and that music is definitely a part of her.

Diane Birch has been called “an old favorite, with all the sparkle and magic of a breakthrough talent.” She has been compared to an early Carole King, Linda Ronstadt and Stevie Nicks, with a little Joss Stone and Cat Power mixed in. Now I am only 27 so those artists are from before my time and when I was young, but I have heard them before and I can definitely hear the resemblence.

Diane Birch has a bluesy, jazz voice but yet it is upbeat and relaxing. I also love that the entire CD was written by her so know that she is singing from her heart and experiences. I mainly like to listen to this CD when I am blogging, but I did put it on my iPod so I can listen to it when I am stuck in traffic and crabby!

Bible Belt came out June 2nd and was immediately one of the Top 10 Albums on iTunes.
