This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Wheat Food Council. All opinions are 100% mine.
Wheat Works is a website that for each participant, the Wheat Foods Council will donate two pounds of flour, up to 90,000 pounds, to Operation Homefront, a non-profit that provides assistance to needy U.S. troops and their families. The donation is made possible through two of the world’s largest millers, ADM and ConAgra. It is a pretty neat website that lets you interactively learn more about how you farm wheat and then eat it! Participants of all ages can virtually grow, harvest and mill their own kernels to create a desired wheat food. Participants go through each of the program’s four phases – growth, harvest, milling/baking and the grocer’s aisle.
Each phases takes just minutes to complete and approximately one day after completing a phase, you will receive an email prompting you to return and continue onto the next phase. At the end of each phase, you can even extend your learning experience through preparing wheat-based recipes, exploring wheat grown in their area through our state wheat commission member sites and even viewing harvest videos from “America’s Heartland.” The Wheat Food Council believes that teaching people how wheat comes to be resulting in informed food choices involving wheat nutrition.
I especially think this website would be great for kids to learn more about wheat and farming, and in the background they are helping out others through Operation Homefront. You can check out the program here at How Wheat Works.
