DVD Review: "Hermie: Antonio Meets His Match (DVD) Being a Good Neighbor"

“Love Thy Neighbor” is something that can be a struggle when we find that our neighbors are different than us. It’s funny how my husband and I have lived in 3 houses so far, and never got along with our neighbors until now. Our new neighbors are great and even better they have kids our kid’s ages. Well Max Lucado has come out with a new DVD in the Hermie & Friends series called “Antonio Meets His Match: Its About Being a Good Neighbor.”

In the DVD, Hermie and his fellow ants are happy and living their peaceful lives, until new neighbors move in. The new neighbors are different, foreign and the only thing they have in common is that they are ants. Well since Hermie is the strong ant and leader, he is nominated to basically kick the new ants out of their garden. As Hermie is heading over to his new neighbors he gets an epiphany from God about how important it is to love thy neighbor. Antonio thinks about it and decides to go home and share with his friends what he learned. Hermie and his friends struggle to accept the new ants, but realize that it is the right thing to do.

Whether you are religious or not, the message from this DVD is a valuable one and I think is great for any child to learn. The animation was also surprisingly good and reminded my of the movies “Antz” and “A Bugs Life.” I would recommend this DVD to any parent looking for something wholesome and beneficial for their children. It is also part of a series called “Hermie & Friends” from Max Lucado.

DVD Description:

A rude foreigner moves into the garden, testing Antonio’s patience.

Antonio should probably be called “Brave Ant”, for the heroic way he leads his Army Ants in defending the garden from, say, Big Bully Croaker.  But when some foreign ants move into the garden, their strange ways challenge Antonio to use something other than physical strength and military experience to solve a problem. Featuring Tim Conway as Hermie and special guest-star Fred Willard (“Wall-E”, “Kim Possible”, “Chicken Little”, etc) and includes the original song “How Could Anyone Not Love Me” and the cartoon short “Caterpilla” (a spoof of Cinderella). Lesson is based on Luke 10:27  “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.”
