DVD Review & Giveaway: “Fantastic Mr. Fox” – 3 Winners! (Ends 3/26)

Academy Award-winning Hollywood heavyweights George Clooney (Up In The Air) and Meryl Streep (It’s Complicated) lend their voices to the hilarious, heartwarming and dazzling stop-motion animated adventure from visionary director Wes Anderson (The Royal Tenebaums) Fantastic Mr. Fox.  In the re-imagined classic family tale, Mr. and Mrs. Fox (Clooney and Streep) live a happy home life with their eccentric son Ash (Jason Schwartzman: The Darjeeling Limited) and visiting nephew Kristopherson.  That is until Mr. Fox slips into his sneaky, old ways and plots the greatest heist the animal world has ever seen.  When mean old farmers Boggis, Bunce and Bean join forces to surround Mr. Fox and his family, they don’t realize they are not dealing with any old fox – it’s Fantastic Mr. Fox and he has a fantastic master plan to save the day! Based on the beloved best-selling book by Roald Dahl (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), Fantastic Mr. Fox is family fun at its finest. Anderson employs a colorful supporting cast to bring his eccentric characters to life including Bill Murray (Lost In Translation), Owen Wilson (Marley & Me) and Willem Dafoe (Spiderman triology).  The DVD and Blu-ray Disc/DVD Combo Pack are packed with behind-the-scenes bonus features, including a special inside look at how stop-motion animation really works and much more.

I honestly didn’t know what to expect with this movie.  It is not a cartoon but it is not a regular movie, and I just didn’t get it.  The movie is also based on a book by Roald Dahl called Fantastic Mr. Fox which I unfortunately hadn’t read before.  This movie is adorable and I cannot believe it held my 3 year old and 20 month old’s attention for the whole movie!  I know they didn’t really get what was going on, but they were fasinated by it, as was I.  The movie was about Mr. Fox who lives a dangerous life as a chicken stealer, then quits when he finds out he is going to be a dad.  After a few years, he realizes he is missing somethnig and decides to do a few ‘jobs’ stealing from the meanest farmers in the county.  The movie has some great lessons though like:  It is okay to be different, Don’t lie, and Work together.  I found myself laughing throughout this movie, and I actually won’t mind when my boys want to watch it again!  I am always going to pick up the book!

I would recommend this movie to all ages.  It is a cute tale and if you loved the book by Roald Dahl, then you have to check it out.  I also really liked the voices, for example, George Clooney is Mr. Fox and he pretty much talks the whole movie.  I also loved the relationship between his son and nephew – one an outside and the other one popular and good at everything.  All the animals though are adorable and great additions to the movie.
