Peaceable Kingdom Review (& Giveaway Ends 6/21)

ABOUT:

Peaceable Kingdom is a place where dinosaurs roam and a mermaid princess swims, where a child can host a fairy tea party or sail the open seas on a pirate ship.  A place of imagination and exploration and fun.

The company was started back in 1983 by Olivia and Thacher Hurd (Thacher being the son of children’s book artist Clement Hurd who illustrated Goodnight Moon and Runaway Bunny.)  The started out selling posters but have now expanded to work with more than 100 artists on product offering including birthday cards, games, stickers, paper dolls, puzzles, diaries, and valentines.  All of the products are designed for children!

MY THOUGHTS:

I received two adorable games from Peaceable Kingdom for my boys to play with and the first thing I noticed is that the boxes are nice and sturdy for storing the games in.  Maybe it is just me but I hate when something comes in a cheap box that falls apart after a few uses.

Doggone Domino Game is a domino game suitable for ages 3 and up and up to 4 players.  There is no reading required and the whole game can be played in about 15 minutes.  I love that there are no complicated instructions to try to understand, you basically open up the 36 paper dominoes and are ready to play.  There is a small instruction sheet which includes three ways of game play for your child to advance to as they grow.  A game that grows with my child and has multiple uses is always a nice thing!  There is the simple matching game where you match the different dogs, a more strategic version, and finally a more traditional “dot- based version.  My son loves to match up the dogs and it is so simple my 2 year old is picking up on it!  The only flaw I noticed is that I wish the dominoes were plastic but at least they are pretty sturdy and I suppose you could also laminate them if you wanted!

This game comes in a small box so it is perfect to take with you or store anywhere.  It retails for $11.99.

Numbers Match Up Game is a game for kids ages 2-6 and can be played alone or up to 4 people.  The game does not require any reading and right out of the box it is ready to be played!  The pieces are like giant flash cards that have numbered objects on one side and the other is a puzzle piece.  My 2 year old loves to try to match up the cards by looking at them and my 3 year old likes to flip them over and try to match two at a time.  The cards feature bright pictures that teach numbers, words, shapes and more!  Then after your kids have grown out of the game they can build the Octopus puzzle on the other side!  My boys are just learning simple items like colors, shapes and animals now so I love calling out something and seeing if they can “I Spy” it.  Then I let them hold on to that card to signify that they won it and whoever has the most wins!

This game also comes in a compact box with a nice little Velcro closure that is perfect to take with anywhere.  Numbers Match Up Game retails for $14.99.

I also got the chance to review two packs of their stickers.  Yes Peaceable Kingdom even sells stickers!  The stickers cost only $2.00 per pack and come with 2-3 sheets including 30+ stickers!  They are colorful illustrations and I love the price, since my boys can never get enough stickers!

Overall, I am very pleased with how much fun my boys are having with these two games and I love the colors used.  The games are both so bright and very kid-appealing as well as perfect for kids that are young and learning!
