RecipeNut Website Review (& Hormel Foods Giveaway Ends 10/25)

A new website is reinventing the traditional recipe box and providing an online tool for the recipe obsessed to compile and share their favorites.  No more recipe boxes, binders, folders, recipe cards or magazine pages laying all over.

RecipeNut, sponsored by Hormel Foods, is a one-of-kind website that allows you to personally collect and manage all your recipes, even those you find on other websites.  It is a social network for “RecipeNuts” that allows users to identify and follow other users with similar dish, cuisine and ingredient preferences, rate and review recipes and share their favorites via Facebook, Twitter and email.

RecipeNut is also asking Facebook fans to share their favorite recipes and stories behind them for a chance at nearly $2000 in prizes.  The contest kicks off at http://www.facebook.com/RecipeNut on September 27^th and entries will be accepted through October 11^th. Simply fan or “like” the page, submit a name and description of your favorite family recipe and the story behind it as well as an image of the note card or page that it’s printed on.  Ten finalists will be selected and fans can vote for or “like” the entry they think best exemplifies a truly treasured recipe. The winners will be announced on the RecipeNut Facebook page on October 25^th.

RecipeNut is sponsored by Hormel Foods and features downloadable coupons for brands like Hormel^® chili, Hormel^® bacon, Hormel^® chunk meat and more.  A monthly e-newsletter features the highest rated recipes, cooking tips and coupons.

MY THOUGHTS:

I am terrible with recipes – I have a box, folder, and pile of magazine cut-outs of recipes.  I have the best intentions to make the dishes but then they get lost or shoved in a drawer and forgotten about.  What I love about RecipeNut is that I can store everything in one site, share my recipes, and quickly find others that interest me.  It is like Facebook for recipe lovers!  I have checked out other branded sites before and they mostly use products from that company and you can’t necessarily share as easily and I haven’t seen before that you can follow users with similar tastes and such.

With RecipeNut you can upload your personal recipes as well as aggregate recipes from all other online sources , from magazines to food blogs, and then swap them with other “recipe nuts.”  It really is easy to use and once you set everything up, adding recipes going forward is a breeze and I love that I can just set my laptop up on my counter and follow recipe directions.
