Bedtime for us is a crazy and hectic time of day. With a 2 and 3 year old who never seem to be tired or want to go to bed we have a constant struggle with our bedtime routine. I try to keep things routine every night so my boys understand what is happening and are prepared. Every night as a family we all pile into our bathroom and brush our teeth as a family. Brushing as a family I think (hope) shows my boys how long to brush, how to hold the toothbrush, and just basically that it is important.
We all have different toothbrushes, my sons have character brushes, my husband has a Colgate Spinbrush and I have a Sonicare Essence powered toothbrush. First, my husband and I use mouthwash and try to use our Waterpik to flush our teeth since we both don’t really like floss. I love my Sonicare toothbrush because it really feels like my whole mouth is getting cleaned and scrubbed. It also doesn’t feel rough like some other powered toothbrushes do, its very smooth. As far as toothpaste goes, we are not too particular and usually buy whats on sale, but prefer it to have a whitening property in it. Overall, brushing our teeth as a family is not only a great way to spend a few minutes together before bedtime, but I really do hope my son’s understand the importance and right way to do it.
