This year we started a new tradition at our house, just in time for the Christmas season. Right after Thanksgiving Allen appeared on our kitchen counter to surprise my boys in the morning. Santa knows what Elf is right for each family, and my boys fell in love immediately with Allen. Now Allen can be a mischievous elf but I trust Santas judgment and Allen really is helping us get into the Christmas spirit.
Normally the Elf Magic tradition begins with a child writing a letter to Santa Claus requesting an Elf Magic friend to visit through the Holiday season. Since my boys are little I helped them ask for a special friend from Santa. Allen will be with us day and night until Christmas Eve which is when he will return to the North Pole to help out Santa. How do we know he is really from Santa? Allen has a snowflake on his heart which Santa put there so we know he’s authentic.
Before going to bed, we put out some saltine crackers and ice water for Allen to eat. Why crackers and water? Well the Elves’ favorite snack is crackers since it reminds them of crunch snow and ice water is melting North Pole Snowflakes. To keep Allen comfortable while he is visiting with us Santa even sent him complete with his suitcase, clothes, magical snowflakes, passport, a poem, and Tip Sheet on Caring for your Elf. Every night we also sprinkle some North Pole Snowflakes on Allen, this nightly dusting is what creates Elf Magic when everyone is asleep.
So far we have found Allen in his Elfcapades in a few different places. He was in the freezer which I explained to my boys was probably because he missed the coldness of the North Pole. We also found him in the bathroom on the faucet to surprise (and remind) Aidan to wash his hands after going potty. My little guy takes Allen to naptime with him everyday as he loves to cuddle with him! Allen has also been on the train table watching my boys playing with their trains.
Allen is definitely part of our family now and our holiday traditions, I know it will be hard when he has to go back to the North Pole. I am hoping that Santa sends him back though for special occasions like birthdays and vacations. We will definitely write Santa next year to make sure Allen comes back!

Oh my gosh, so cute! You're one of the first I've seen who's kids aren't afraid to actually touch the elf! Love it! Can't wait until my little man is old enough for some Elf Magic!
