A few weeks ago I was invited to The Abbey Resort on Lake Geneva in Fontana, Wisconsin. I had actually never been to the Lake Geneva area before so I was excited to check it out. I didn’t know what to expect since it was cold out and I assumed The Abbey Resort would be best in the summertime but actually it was great in the cold weather too!
When I first walked in, I couldn’t believe how beautiful the lobby was and how friendly the staff was. Everyone said “Hi” and smiled, which being from Chicago I am not used to everyone being so happy! (It’s not that we are rude in Chicago but we pretty much mind our own business and go about our ways.) I got my room key and was escorted down to my room. The room was so quant and adorable with a separate door opening to a shared balcony. It had gorgeous white wood vaulted ceilings, a giant bed, beautiful bathroom, television and a couch sitting area. It was so nice to sit in and unwind. It was a room I could see myself spending with some girlfriends or bring my family along.
After settling in, I attended a session on Moroccan Oil hair treatment, which I had never heard of before. It is a luxury brand hair care line (used by many celebrities) infused with an argan oil blend rich in vitamins and natural elements that fortify the hair. Moroccan Oil is only used in select salons and the Avani Spa at The Abbey Resort is one of them. Of course after learning about all the benefits of Moroccan Oil, I was of course dying to try it.
After the Moroccan Oil discussion, I headed down to the Avani Spa for my first spa treatment. The Avani Spa is a full-service spa that includes relaxation and pampering through private treatment rooms, dry sauna, whirlpools, steam rooms, Avan-trium Pool with lap lines and more! I checked in, got a locker key and headed to put on my comfy spa robe. My first treatment was a Customized Facial. I had a facial once before in a regular salon, and it was nothing like this facial!
My Customized Spa first had the attendant checking out my face and customizing a skin care treatment to my dry, oily skin. She put on different products in different areas and explained each step to me. Then not only did she massage my head and neck, but she also massaged my feet, calves, arms, and hands. She would have massaged my upper back if I could lay on my stomach, but being pregnant didn’t make that position too comfortable! My face felt so smooth and cleansed when she was done with my almost hour long session. It was definitely worth it and I did ask how often women should get a facial and she said around four times a year would be great to correspond with the season changes and therefore skin changes. Honestly, I would take a facial over a massage any day since it was the best of both worlds for me!
The Avani Spa was so soothing to just walk around in and relax by the fireplace. Finally, I had to tear myself away from the spa and get ready for dinner. We first got a tour of The Abbey Resort and then concluded at the private dining area for parties for dinner. It was a room that was open and airy but somewhere that is only for private events, it was so big and elegant. We sat at a giant table (one you’d expect Kings and Queens to dine at) and heard from the Chef about the different foods and what to expect. There was one area where he did a cooking demonstration with homemade pasta, another with appetizers and desserts, and one where you picked what you wanted in your pasta dish and it was cooked in front of you! We were also brought out a salad, mussels, and bread. Everything was delicious and showed what a great selection and creative dishes are at The Abbey Resort. It also showed that if you wanted a special or customized menu for a party (or wedding) that the chefs will work with you.
After dinner, Maria, Lisa, and myself walked around the property and checked out the rest of the property. We found a super helpful employee who gave us a tour of everything and even turned on stuff to show us how things worked. He showed us the indoor pool with kiddie area complete with slide and water sprinkler, arcade, movie theatre which plays family friendly movies (or you could ask about using the room for an event), the game hallway which has tables set up with all sorts of classic games, and the childcare room which had tons of toys, crafts, and movies to keep kids entertained. I was impressed to learn that the childcare rates were reasonable and that the attendants were all Abbey Resort employees and not from another company. This would be nice to drop off kids to enjoy a peaceful dinner or some other entertainment with my husband! Oh did I mention all those activities are free, expect of course the childcare. We also saw were bonfires were held and sat by an outdoor firepit for a little bit!

(Games set up on tables all down the hallway) (Pool)
(Kiddie pool) (Childcare room)

Finally, it was time for bed and I was beat from walking around and all the great food. The Abbey Resort is huge, with lots of expansions so it is a lot to explore and walk around. I could not believe how much is under the one roof – lots of restaurants, a full spa, pool, arcade, shops, giant conference rooms and more! You basically could stay there and still miss something!
(They even turned down my bed at night and left chocolates on my pillows!)
