Studio: Walt Disney Pictures
ABOUT:
An unforgettable story, breathtaking animation, beloved characters and award-winning music sets thestage for “The Lion King”, a Disney classic that follows the adventures of Simba, the feisty lion cub who “just can’t wait to be king.” But his envious Uncle Scar has plans for his own ascent to the throne, and he forces Simba’s exile from the kingdom. Alone and adrift, Simba soon joins the escapades of a hilarious meerkat named Timon and his warmhearted warthog pal, Pumbaa. Adopting their carefree lifestyle of “Hakuna Matata,” Simba ignores his real responsibilities until he realizes his destiny and returns to the Pride Lands to claim his place in the “Circle of Life.” The all-star vocal talents—including Matthew Broderick, Nathan Lane, Whoopi Goldberg, James Earl Jones, Jeremy Irons, Ernie Sabella, Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Robert Guillaume, Cheech Marin and Moira Kelly—rip-roaring comedy and uplifting messages of courage, loyalty and hope make this a timeless tale for all ages. Produced by Don Hahn and directed by Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff from a script by Irene Mecchi, Jonathan Roberts and Linda Woolverton, “The Lion King” is rated G by the MPAA.
The Blu-ray debut marks the first time “The Lion King” has been available in any form since 2004. Featuring pristine high definition picture and sound, the Blu-ray creates an incredible at-home experience with a host of picture and sound enhancements, interactive features and bonus content, including a new set of hilarious animated bloopers.
MY THOUGHTS:
I haven’t seen The Lion King since it came out on VHS and my boys are about the right age now to enjoy it. Watching it on Blu-ray was absolutely amazing. The colors were so vibrant, the characters amazing and everything in general about the movie was so much more than I remembered. Its hard to believe this movie is 17 years old! My husband couldn’t believe all the songs from the movie as all of them were (are) big Disney hits.
What I love about the Blu-ray/DVD combos is that I can keep the Blu-ray version in my house and the DVD in the car. This version also has some great Bonus Features and something called “Disney Second Screen.” I had never heard of Disney Second Screen before, but it is awesome! You just choose that as the version movie you are watching and you open an app on your Laptop or iPad. Then as you watch the movie on your television you can interact with scenes on your laptop or iPad. There are animation screens, games and other fun activities you can do while you are watching the movie – it is great for kids for ways for them to interact and it is great for adults who want more from the movie they have seen a million times.
Whether you have seen “The Lion King” before or are new to it, seeing this remake is worth it. The quality is amazing and I love that I can now share it with my kids.

I liked The Lion King in general. I had the comforter, sheets, stuffed animals, and trading cards. I remember trading up for the "special" cards at school. I regret to this day getting rid of them.
