DVD Review: “Barney: All About Opposites”

Barney: All About Opposites

Released: July 10, 2012

Studio: Lionsgate / HIT Entertainment

Running Time: 75 minutes

ABOUT:

There’s nonstop fun as Barney and his friends go and learn all about opposites! Everyone helps Baby BopT understand concepts like up and down, in and out, high and low. Hey Diddle Diddle, the kids see that they can be big or little but it’s what’s inside that counts! Then join in as Barney and his friends have a cool time on a hot day in a pretend winter-summer wonderland learning about hot and cold! There’s always Tee-riffic teaching and fun when big dinos and small friends are around!
MY THOUGHTS:
While Barney is not one of my favorites, it really is a great show kids. With the silly but educational songs and great lessons for kids, as a parent I appreciate Barney. I felt too like it was a one of the first shows for preschoolers. Anyways, this DVD focuses on opposites and I feel that is a perfect subject for my 4 and 5 year old. The DVD is reinforcing what they already know and keeping them sharp, especially in the summertime before school starts. The DVD runs just over an hour and is perfect to get kids excited about learning!

  • I know this isn't the norm, as most parents here have small children. But...as they get older, there are STILL things that we're working on with them. For instance: (careful, this list may get really long lol)
-put your dirty clothes IN the hamper, not next to.
-put your clean clothes in drawers so that the cats don't get cat hair all over them and then we find them on the floor next to (note, not IN) the hamper...STILL FOLDED from the last wash!
-put your shoes on the rack that sits so gingerly next to the front door....not in the doorway where we trip over them. (Dad now puts their shoes on the front porch...they can get them out there now!)
    Need I go on.....
But setting all humor aside, I really enjoyed my kids in every stage in their lives. I used to complain about picking this up or that up and my grandma always said to me, Tami, there will come a day when you WISH you had those toys to pick up." As my oldest is getting ready to leave for college next week, 4 hrs from home, it will be more quiet around here and I'll wish I had his books to pick up. :)
