Last week I got the chance to head over to The Chopping Block in Chicago for a cooking demonstration and to learn more about how to use the New Chicago Cutlery DesignPro knives. As an ambassador I have written two posts about them so far and I was excited to attend this local event to learn about the knives in person. As I have said in my DesignPro posts, I was clueless about knives. I have just never been comfortable holding them.
Arriving at the Chopping Block was an adventure, but we made it. We started out event, hearing about the knives and then we went to our stations. The chef talked to us about her knife experience and told us how we were going to be cutting up the food for our actual meal!
We learned different techniques such as Dicing, Julienne, and how to hold the knives safely and effectively. We cut meat, fruits, and vegetables with of course the Chicago Cutlery DesignPro knives. I learned some great tips though on cutting and which knives are for which foods.
The DesignPro knives have a control grip with dots that you place your fingers on to grip the knife and cut with. Once we had proper holding techniques down, we were off cutting. Like I said we learned how to properly cut things.
(Don’t worry if you need a example, I will post a video tutorial soon!)
The food was incredible and stuff I would have never thought of making before, but really it was easy – especially once we got the hang of cutting.
Start with a carrot:
Cut slivers:
Keep cutting a.k.a. julienne:
Cut your parchment paper in a heart shape:
Place veggies, salmon (or other fish):
Add seasoning and butter the edges of heart:
Wrap the edges and seal tightly:
After cooked, yum!
Salad:
Cut flank steak against the grain:
