Enter and Vote for a Local Hero for National Mobility Awareness Month!

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of NMEDA for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Did you know you have a 20% chance of becoming disabled at some point in your life, if you are not already?  Or that one in five elderly have mobility issues?  I guess I never thought of it before but being disabled can be compared to being a minority in the United States.  Currently over 18 million people in the United States and Canada have mobility issues.  May has been deemed National Mobility Awareness Month to educate the public on how many people are actually in need of assistance and what options are out there.

The National Mobility Equipment Dealer Association (NMEDA) has launched a campaign encouraging people to submit their stories which will be showcased by national and local media.  NMEDA wants to showcase local heroes who are dealing with or overcoming their mobility challenges.  Local Heroes, friends and family members are encouraged to vote at www.mobilityawarenessmonth.com to be entered to win one of three custom Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAV).  The favorite stories with the most votes will be chosen and winners will be announced in May.

A Local Hero can be anyone in your community, whether he or she be a caregiver, veteran or person with disabilities who Volunteer, Educate, Advocate, Achieve, or Persevere.  The contest started February 25th with written or video stories being accepted at www.mobilityawarenessmonth.com and on the NMEDA Facebook page.  Then from March 11th through May 10th the voting began.  Winners will be selected on May 20th and announced on May 30th.

For more information visit NMEDA or www.mobilityawarenessmonth.com.

There's still time to submit an entry and vote!
