Cooling Off With My NewAir AC-12000E-Portable Air Conditioner {Review}

Disclosure: I received this product in exchange for my honest opinion.

Our office is over the garage and around a corner, it honestly is 10-15 degrees hotter in there than the rest of the house.  I gave up working in there, but my poor husband works from home at least one day a week and he melts up there!  We did have an air conditioning guy come in and give us some options but they were costly and not easy.  We do have 2 windows in there, but one doesn’t open and the other is a skylight that only opens a few inches – so basically no air flow.

Well thanks to NewAir we now have a beautifully air conditioned office that my husband and I fight over!  NewAir features products from Home Appliances to Wine Coolers to Air Quality Control products and we got to check out the NewAir AC 12000E Portable Air Conditioner.

Portable and convenient, the NewAir AC-12000E cooling unit is built with 12,000 BTUs and covers up to 425 square feet. The AC-12000E air conditioner is environmentally friendly and designed with an auto-evaporative feature. The NewAir AC-12000E air conditioner is highly reputable and rated as one of the top portable air conditioning units.

Environmentally Friendly
The AC-12000E eco-friendly air conditioner is built with a R410A refrigerant that provides cooler air while using less energy.

Auto-Evaporative Cooling Feature
The convenient auto-evaporative feature provides an improved cooling effect with less condensate build-up. This NewAir AC-12000E portable air conditioner can operate on a continuous level by recycling collected moisture.

Accommodating Remote and Timer
The NewAir AC-12000E is designed with a remote control and a 24-hour programmable timer to adjust the temperature to a comfortable level at any time.

Easy Installation
Use your cooling unit as soon as you receive it! The portable AC-12000E air conditioner is easy to install without the worry of sitting there for hours and trying to assemble a product. A window kit is included which can be set-up within minutes.

Now the first thing you need to know about a portable air conditioner is that it needs to vent the hot air somehow.  Yes cold air comes out but the hot air has to vent somewhere otherwise it pumps right back into the room.  It comes with a piece that is meant to vent it through a sliding window.  So for example you put this long plastic piece in a window and then in the middle of it there is a hole that you vent through.  Unfortunately our windows are all crank out windows or patio doors so I had to come up with a new solution.  Luckily I have an awesome dad who knows pretty much everything and was able to come out and install this for us.  By cutting a hole through the side of our house and venting it up through the roof (the room has a slanted roof above it) we were able to efficiently use the NewAir portable air conditioner.  It was pretty easy and took only a few hours to get everything done and running.  If you want other examples, there are plenty of video tutorials and examples I found by Googling.

These are the two awful windows in our office (the one doesn’t open and the other is a skylight):

Hole leads to outside of our house to vent:

Not ugly!  Also about as tall as our desk, but not too bulky:

Overall, this air conditioner by NewAir is awesome!  In just minutes our office is cooled off and it is easy to operate.  We haven’t had any issues once we got it installed and it works perfectly for our needs.  If we were able to have used it in windows that slide open it would have made it even better but we were able to make it work.  The size is perfect and light enough that it can be moved and it is not an eyesore either.  Now I will say it is loud but once it cools off the room it can be turned off and then turned back on a little later.  It is meant too to be able to be moved from room to room as its on wheels, but we have it setup nicely in our office.  This is the perfect solution if you don’t have a window you can install one of those bulky window air conditioners, need something temporary (like in an apartment) or just want something portable.  For us it was the only affordable option and were happy with it.
