nanoblock Praying Mantis {Review}

Disclosure:  I received the products below to review in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.

So my boys and my husband are pretty much building masters and I knew it was only a matter of time before they wanted a challenge and nanoblock was just that for them. nanoblock’s are a miniature blocks, think super small LEGOS, that create mico-sized building fun and a definite challenge.  The block sets are available in tons of varieties including animals, buildings, holiday items and more.  I got the chance to check out the nanoblock Praying Mantis set.

The Praying Mantis building set has over 120 pieces and is recommend for ages 8 and up.  Now if you have never seen nanoblocks before, these 120 pieces are small, some being super small.  You know like a small pill from a medicine bottle, yeah some are that small!  I unfortunately do not have the patience nor small fingers to work on this set and my master builders (aka my sons and husband) have been to busy to sit down and build this for me.  By small fingers I mean steady and swift fingers, I kept dropping these pieces and couldn’t stick them on right with my short stubby fingers.

First off I recommend putting all these pieces in a tray as they can easily get stuck in your carpet fibers.  Looking at the directions they look pretty straight forward to follow, no words just pictures.   I could see though kids and adults getting into it as it is a challenge.  I didn’t have a problem getting the pieces to snap together but then again I didn’t finish either.  I would say this would be a good stocking stuffer for a young tween to adult or just a little something just because.  nanoblocks are especially nice for someone who is older and looking for a set geared towards specifically older people.  Once I get someone to actually build this for me, I hope to keep it in my office on a shelf that is unless my boys want it in their room, sigh.

Overall, I think the concept of nanoblock and micro-sized building blocks is a great idea.  The sets come in such great varieties as well that there is surely a set for everyone.  They even come in different levels so you know how challenging each is. I must be pretty bad as the Praying Mantis is a Level 2 out of 5 and I still had trouble!
