Disclosure: I received this product to review in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.
Ever since my boys saw the Kaotiks in the Kohl’s holiday toy catalog they were mesmerized by them. What are Kaotiks you may be thinking? Well Kaotiks are remote-control car sets that feature high-speed stunts around tracks and in the air. The sets are individual or you can combine them to make a big set. I got the chance to review two Kaotiks sets with my two boys (ages 5 and 6) and they love them! Now we have tried those small slot car like race sets where you had to line up the cars on the tracks to control them and they were too hard to control and didn’t always work. With Kaotiks, kids just put the car on the playset and let them go. Actually you don’t even need to have it on the playset, my boys zoom their Kaotiks cars all over the house!
I reviewed two Kaotiks playsets: Thunderwave and Psychoplex. Like I said they are fun both individually or combined. My boys actually go back and forth having the sets be separate and then combining them.
This is where the action all begins! With The Thunderwave, you’ve got two customizable oververt quarterpipes, and an awesome stunt feature that allows you to power up walls! Sneak up from behind the set with the secret trap door entry, and let the KAOS commence! $49.99 suggested retail price.
The Psychoplex includes a gnarly two-sided oververt pocket for massive backflips – or for reaching for that insane 90 scale foot high jump! Can you handle the tabletop action over the spine? Ease on over in a smooth frontflip, or blast it at full throttle! The spine is a two-sided ramp that tests your nose and tailwhips. Get KRAZY with the Psychoplex! $69.99 suggested retail price.
Honestly I can’t pick a favorite between the sets I checked out as both Thunderwave and Psychoplex are fun in their own ways. With Thunderwave my boys are determined to make the jump from one ramp to the other and with Psychoplex they are determined to jump their cars the highest. Combining the sets though is where the real fun comes in as you get the best of both worlds. Yes combining the sets is as easy as snapping and un-snapping pieces together, my 5 year old can actually do it himself.
We brought this to a family party and my son was super excited when I handed it to him:
The real fun though is not having to deal with batteries for the cars. All you do is pop out the small plastic battery and snap it into the remotes to charge them. I am not sure how long it takes to charge, but I don’t feel like it is a long time, at least my boys aren’t complaining that it is. I love this because it is something they can do themselves, whereas other toys that require batteries and a tiny screwdriver are not as easy for them to change.
The green box is actually the battery you pop in the car when its charged:
It lights up to let you know its charging:
Overall, Kaotiks is a breathe of fresh air when it comes to remote control cars. I love that they have sets you can build and re-build for them to drive on or that they work on any hard floor surfaces. I love that they charge themselves. I love that they are not big and bulky. Right now there are just three sets available but I did read on the Kaotiks Facebook page that they are going to be adding in individual cars and additional batteries. Yes the product is new and I know every time I looked it was sold out so if you find it, don’t miss out! The only flaw I see is that my boys want additional cars to play with in their sets, so I am happy to hear that they will be adding some. We haven’t had any other problems and this is a toy that my boys pull out constantly to play with. They even added in their little die-cast cars and skateboards to zoom around.
