Fun & Family Dining at Ed Debevic’s (Chicago) {Review}

Disclosure:  I received a complimentary meal for my family in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.

Looking for a place to eat with your family that is fun, kid-friendly and won’t break the bank?  Ed Debevic’s in Chicago is the perfect place to go!  My family recently dined there for dinner and loved it!  First off what you should know about Ed’s Debevic’s is that the service is amazing but it is served with a side of sass.  For example, our server, Bubbles, came over asked what we wanted to drink and walked away.  Normally you might think that she is a terrible waitress, but its all part of the atmosphere and fun.  Don’t worry you won’t get bad service!  The servers offer snarky remarks and even do choregraphed dance numbers just because!

Here is a video I took of our server and the other servers:

Ed Debevic’s is the only Retro-Themed Diner in Chicago and has been going strong since 1984.  It feels out of place in the heart of the big skyscrapers downtown and inside you are taken back to a different time.  Yes they have parking in case your wondering, it does cost extra ($8 I think for two hours.)

The inside is so fun though and it is so hard to not spend hours walking around looking at everything.  There is so much going on inside and it really is fun!  My daughter loved the cow on the ceiling the best.

Okay how about the food?  It is diner food, so its hamburgers, hot dogs, pot roast, ribs, five different chilis, meatloaf and more!

Oh and there is dessert of course, milkshakes, malts and ice cream sundaes.  My kids go the super small ice cream sundaes which were perfect for them and we even got to keep the little glass containers.

I honestly loved it there.  Our server wasn’t fake but rather fun and honest, in a good way of course.  We will definitely be going back!  I can’t believe I have lived in Chicago and surrounding area all my life and I never ate there before, I feel like it is a place everyone should visit at least once (alhtough you will probably want to go back!)

  • I haven't been to Ed Debevic's in ages... I used to live fairly close, but not anymore. Thanks for the reminder... I'll be there for a shake soon.

  • I visited Chicago this summer, but we couldn't fit every favorite restaurant into the schedule. I've been to Ed Debevic's and had a blast. Look forward to our next visit to Chicago and it's fun restaurants.

  • That's a fun reminder... I haven't been to Ed's in a hundred years even though I pass it at least once a month. Next time I"m in the neighborhood, I"m stopping for a shake!

  • Several years ago I went on a school trip to Chicago and ate at Ed Debevic’s. It was very memorable and a great place to eat. I still recommend it to this day to anyone who visits Chicago. Someday I will get back to Chicago and eat there again.
