Robot+Dinosaur = Boomer The Zoomer Dino {Review}

Disclosure:  I received the product below to review in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.

My 6 year old is fascinated with robots and dinosaurs, so you can imagine his excitement to have a robotic dinosaur.  I call Boomer a robot because he is an electronic dinosaur on wheels with a remote control that can do tricks.  No he can’t do homework or bring drinks, but he is the closest thing to a robot dinosaur I have ever seen!

So I admit I played with Boomer for quite some time by myself.  He amazes me.  From balancing on his own two feet while rolling around my house to his mood indicating eyes, he is pretty awesome!  Yes I said “mood indicating” eyes.  Boomer’s eyes change color based on his mood, yes there is even a chart to explain what his moods are.  My boys of course like to see him mad because his eyes light up red, while my daughter likes them “happy green” as she calls it.

So how does he balance exactly?  This impressed me as I couldn’t figure out how he was actually going to stand up and move while on two balls basically for feet.  Well Boomer uses True Balance Technology while helps him perfectly balance while moving in circles or forward/backward.

Can he be controlled?  Yes and No.  He is a dinosaur so he does have a little bit of his own temperament but for the most part you can control him with either the included remote or your hand.  Yes your hand!  You can wave your arm around him to get him to follow you, train him to do tricks or even pet him like you would a nice dinosaur.  He will react to being touched with dino-sense responsiveness.  Pull his tail though and he will get angry!

What is he powered by?  You charge Boomer himself with the included USB charging cable by either plugging it into your computer or a wall adapter (not included) which you probably already have from your smartphone, camera, or other electronic device.  Boomer’s remote takes 3 “AA” batteries (not included.)

SpinMaster has done it again with an amazing toy and surprised us.  My kids are 3, 6 and 7 and they all love him.  He zooms around our house on both the carpet and hardwood floors.  No problem at all.  I feel too that he lasts too awhile without charging him, I don’t think we have had to charge him yet.  I definitely think he is going to be a hot item this Christmas so I’d recommend buying him early before he is extinct on the store shelves!

Here is a video I made showing him mad skills:
