Carrera Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Slot Car Set {Review}

My boys have always been fascinated with cars, especially fast ones.  When they were younger they used to play with a slot car set my brothers had, but they never really understood how it worked nor did they treat it right.  Well fast forward a few years later they are finally ready for a slot car set and Carrera had one right up their alley, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle style!

Yep thats right, a Carrera Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Slot Car Set.  The turtles race in high speeds around a 6.5 foot Carrera racetrack.  There is a steep curve and gigantic multiple loop that adds to the excitement of the ninja fun.  The set comes with two racers, the Shredder and Turtles Trike.  You can mix and match the racers with other Carrera Go Series tracks and cars, we don’t have any of those so I couldn’t test it but it is nice to know that there are other cars that can be used.

The way the sets work is you align the racers on the track and push a button on the controller.  I will say it does take practice to get the cars to car around the track.  If your child (or you) push too hard the racer will speed off the track, especially around the corners.  You have to push the controller just right and if you do they will speed around just right.  My boys who are 6 and 7 were amazed to see the Turtles go around and even though they do still speed off that is just part of the fun.  Yes we were able to get the cars to go upside down and around the track. The set is easy to set up, you just snap together the pieces and its together, but it is not as sturdy as I would have liked.  Oh and my husband just followed the picture off the box rather than the directions.

Like I said the set is not super sturdy, but it is a good starter set for slot car racing.  I didn’t have high expectations but it is a toy that surprised me with how much my kids have played with it.  I will say too that it does take up a lot of room and its not a set you’d want to keep taking apart and putting back together.
