I partnered with this brand in exchange for product/compensation to share my honest opinion.
It seems like my house just keeps getting smarter and smarter, and I mean that technology-wise. From my thermostat to a digital picture frame to even my washer, it seems like there is an app or WiFi built into more and more devices that I buy. Heck, I have even seen Bluetooth light bulbs so you can listen to music through a lamp!
When I heard about Nucleus, I honestly wasn’t sure it was something we needed. Once I read more about it I realized I wrong!
Nucleus is a new home intercom system that lets you have face-to-face conversations with others whether they are under the same roof or in a different time zone.
Not a tablet: It looks like a tablet but there are no games or apps on it, it is strictly for communication – think traditional intercom. I mention it this way because it is not a device that kids will play with and carry around the house. No more excuses that a device is dead (not-charged) as Nucleus is constantly powered via ethernet cable or plug power cord. Oh and the power cord is pretty long which is useful.
Dead devices: No more excuses that a device is dead (not-charged) as Nucleus is constantly powered via ethernet cable or plug power cord. Too many times my in-laws have asked about Face-Time but our iPad has been dead or missing. Nucleus even comes with a way to mount the device on the wall by hanging it or stand it up.
Check-in: Want to check on your kids or husband somewhere else in the house but don’t want to stop what you’re doing? You can now! Just the other day I was in our kitchen and I was able to “call” my husband and tell him to bring something up from the basement to me. I didn’t have to stop what I was doing, go to the basement, yell down and hope he heard me. So convenient.
Easy: It’s not hard technology to use and understand. The setup is so easy – just plug in, put in your internet connection information and create an account. Once setup the device is always ready!
Auto-Answer: This simple feature that sets Nucleus apart from other communication tools like landlines, Skype or FaceTime. Don’t worry you can turn it off if you want but I found it super useful. Autoanswer means when the device rings it automatically picks up. You can easily “call” over to someone without them having to stop what they are doing to answer this. I use this feature mostly with my kids while they are in the basement – “Time for Dinner”, “5 more minutes” or “Quiet down.” I don’t have to keep running down to nag them and they can have some space.
Worried about Privacy: You can turn off auto-answer as well as click over the Privacy Screen. You can tell with a glance if you have the privacy set and you won’t be bothered.
Useful: There are three ways you can use your Nucleus.
You can use Nucleus around your house (for example, one in the basement and one in the kitchen.) I see so many uses around my house. I read one review where a homeowner bought eight devices and I thought that was crazy but really it makes sense! No more yelling around your house or buy one for your detached garage and communicate with your family out there from your house!
You can communicate with other Nucleus owners (perfect for elder parents or out-of-state family.) No more hearing that grandma or your older parents don’t know how to answer your video calls.
You can communicate with Nucleus devices via an app on your phone. My husband was excited to be able to see and chat with us while he is at work. This is a great way to check on your kids if they are home alone and they can’t use the excuse they didn’t hear the phone thanks to auto-answer! I see this as useful too so I can ask my husband (or whoever is around our kitchen) if we need anything while I am at the grocery store. Yes a phone call would suffice but my husband never hears his cell phone or doesn’t have it on him.
Here you can see our other Nucleus device as well as our phones and grandma’s phone:
Alexa: You know Amazon’s Alexa voice service which allows you to play music, answer questions, provide information, tell you the weather and more? Well, Nucleus has Alexa built-in to it! So while there are no apps, it does have Alexa. I use it mostly to play music (linked from Pandora) or tell me the weather. Alexa is free by the way!
Honestly, I love it. I wasn’t sure at first like I said but now I can’t believe we lived without it. Even if you don’t have a big house there are uses and if you do have a big house its so helpful. You definitely need at least two if you plan on using them around your house or you could just buy one if you are buying it for peace of mind for a family member and then communicate with them strictly from your phone/tablet.
There are really so many uses for Nucleus that I feel like I have barely scratched the surface.
Check out Nucleus for yourself though and see it that it has to offer plus save $50 off Nucleus devices!
