Last year I got the chance to check out a few pieces from the new line of toys from The Manhattan Toy Company, called MiO. The MiO line contains wooden pieces that are gender neutral and the pieces suggest familiar objects without actually being them. For example, a flat piece can be a table or a bed. The line is all about inspiring imaginative and creative play. It is also perfect for generations to play together since wood is a timeless toy.

I received a few more pieces of MiO to add to our collection and my daughter is thrilled with her new toys. Luckily too The Manhattan Toy Company has a whole slew of fun MiO products available.

The MiO Airplane + Pilot is the perfect set for any transportation loving child. You get a functional airplane (meaning kids push it and it moves as well as propeller can be turned) and a MiO person. The pieces are wooden except the person’s body which is like a bean bag body, squishy but durable enough to stand up on its own.

The MiO Outdoors Set is a great set on its own or with other MiO pieces. This set comes with a hammock, MiO person and two trees. Perfect to create an outdoor retreat. Everything is wooden excpect the tops of trees and Mio person which is made of a squishy yet durable material. Very cute and fun swinging MiO on the hammock.

The best part about all the MiO products though is…no batteries are required! There are no sounds or lights, just simple fun sure to inspire some creativity. You can start with any MiO set, whether it be a bigger one or a smaller one. My daughter is 5 years old and while the minimum age is 3, she still loves the pieces. They are definitely a set you can grow with and add them into our sets you already have. My daughter, for example, has a wooden doll house that her MiO pieces like to take residence in. I just love how they are not plastic.
